Nobody on the show wanted to lay points against North Dakota State. The Bison visit New Mexico on Saturday, October 24 at 7:00 PM PT / 10:00 PM ET in Albuquerque, NM, and the guys grabbed North Dakota State +4.5, the number when they taped on October 20. The full argument is on the College Football Picks Week 8 episode.
North Dakota State vs New Mexico Odds
New Mexico was a 4.5-point favorite with a total of 41.5 when the guys taped on October 20, with the Lobos hosting in Albuquerque.
Our Picks
- Ryan Kramer (@KramerCentric): North Dakota State +4.5
- Sean Green (@SeanTGreen): North Dakota State +4.5
- Colby Dant (@thecolbyd): North Dakota State +4.5
Colby did most of the work here, and he made it a matchup argument. New Mexico lost its starting quarterback for the season right before it started and has played on the backup since, which by Colby’s count leaves the Lobos with a bottom-10 passing attack and a predictable offense. The Lobos do run it well (Colby had them 21st in rushing), but he thinks running into North Dakota State’s defense is the wrong plan. The Bison rank 34th against the run by the number he cited, and he believes they’re better than that. He also likes the under.
None of that is a knock on the coaching. Colby can’t say enough about Jason Eck, the guy he credits with making New Mexico good for the first time, and he told the story of Eck ripping the turnover belt off his defense on the bench while they were losing. He thinks College GameDay belonged in Albuquerque with first place in the Mountain West on the line. As for the Bison, his view is they should still be undefeated, and that dumb turnovers, not the better team, beat them against UNLV.
The rest of the table piled on. One of the guys raised the thin North Dakota State backfield and the jump from Fargo up to Albuquerque’s elevation, then called it a 21-17 kind of game. Ryan’s extra angle was a Hawaii hangover for New Mexico after the long trip back.
