The guys kept coming back to the coaching edge here: Cignetti gets a week to prepare for a Michigan quarterback change, and he does it off a loss. Indiana visits Ann Arbor, MI on Saturday, October 24 at 9:00 AM PT / 12:00 PM ET, and all three guys laid the 7.5 points with the Hoosiers, the number when they taped on October 20. The full segment is on the College Football Picks Week 8 episode.
Indiana vs Michigan Odds
Indiana was a 7.5-point road favorite at Michigan with a total of 41.5 when the guys taped on October 20. The money line read on air was Indiana -265 and Michigan +215.
Our Picks
- Ryan Kramer (@KramerCentric): Indiana -7.5
- Sean Green (@SeanTGreen): Indiana -7.5
- Colby Dant (@thecolbyd): Indiana -7.5
Sean opened the debate leaning the other way. With the Bryce Underwood hype gone, Michigan sits as a big home dog with some momentum from the quarterback who came off the bench against Penn State, and Sean noted Indiana hasn’t been covering large numbers as a favorite. He floated it as a possible dream-crusher spot for the Hoosiers before talking himself out of it.
Colby didn’t hesitate and called Indiana a lock. He doesn’t like a young quarterback against a Cignetti defense, and he doesn’t think Michigan gets to run the ball the way it did against Penn State. In his view Indiana was the better team in its loss to Ohio State, winning at the line of scrimmage even though the scoreboard said otherwise, and he wants to see whether Michigan’s offensive line can hold up against that defensive front.
That swung Sean. He called it a bad matchup for Michigan, said the Wolverines’ defense has issues that Penn State failed to punish, and doubted Indiana would waste chances the same way. Cignetti off a loss was enough for him to lay a number he admitted is high. Ryan went further on the coaching point, saying Michigan is in a bad matchup most weeks with its current head coach.
From there the segment turns into a long argument about paying freshman quarterbacks. Ryan’s position is that the best offensive coaches, Cignetti included, win with older transfers because quarterbacks need time to develop.
