College Football Week 6 Preview & Picks Recap
The College Football Experience on the Sports Gambling Podcast Network continues its College Football Week 6 picks with Colby Dant (@TheColbyD), Ryan McIntyre (@Moneyline_Mac) and CJ Sullivan (@CJSullivan_) working through the full slate, from Thursday night’s UTSA game all the way to Georgia and Alabama.
Can Indiana cover 7.5 on the road at Nebraska? Is Oklahoma a money line play in the Red River Shootout? Is Stanford the ugliest dog on the board against Notre Dame? Can Arizona State lay 20.5 against a beat-up Hawaii team? Is Georgia worth backing as a dog in the rain? We talk it all and more on this episode of The College Football Experience.
Weekday Winners And A Mountain West Smash
Colby Dant is back from ACC Media Days on almost no sleep, and the Week 6 slate starts on Thursday. He has Ryan McIntyre and CJ Sullivan riding along. First up is Western Kentucky laying 2.5 to Missouri State, and the guys are all on the dog. CJ grabbed the Missouri State money line because it is a revenge spot after a 27-22 loss last year. He also notes that Western Kentucky is allowing over 35 points a game. Then Sam Houston catches 13.5 against Liberty, and everybody likes the points there too. But the easiest play of the night is UTSA laying 13.5 to South Florida. CJ says the Roadrunners average over 41 points a game across their last 30 home games. They have never been held below 20 at home either.
Friday night brings a triple lock on Louisville against Florida State. CJ says you have to play the Cardinals at home. Then the guys hit San Jose State laying 6.5 to Wyoming, a number Colby says makes no sense. He lays it, but light, because he plans to bet every Friday night game this season. CJ locks the Spartans and brings a stat to back it up. Favorites of four or more on Mountain West Friday nights are 57-4 straight up in conference play. Mac is on the Cowboys, who are coming off a shutout. CJ also likes the under 43. Next comes Utah State against Washington State, where Colby and Mac ride the Aggies. Meanwhile CJ takes the Cougars and the points now that Kirby Moore is calling plays.
Iowa catching 3.5 at Washington splits the room. CJ and Mac both lock up the Huskies because Iowa is on a short week after Ohio State. CJ calls it a horrible spot, even with Washington’s offense running on broken plays. Colby stays on the Hawkeyes anyway. Then Iowa State gets a triple lock in Provo against BYU. BYU fans have circled Notre Dame next week, so this is a look-ahead spot. Running back L.J. Martin is also out for a month, which helps the case. CJ admits BYU keeps burning them, including a TCU contest loss by a field goal last week. So the guys fade BYU again with Iowa State.
Indiana, Nebraska And A Loaded Saturday Morning
Saturday opens with Indiana laying 7.5 in Lincoln, and Colby has a lock on the Hoosiers. He thinks Nebraska is phony. He also reminds everyone that Cignetti beat them 56-7 the last time they played. Mac goes the other way and calls for Nebraska to win outright as a home dog. His case is that Indiana is in a back-to-back road spot with Ohio State on deck. CJ lays it with Indiana but won’t bet it. He also confirms the stat Colby saw online, that Nebraska is 0-30 against ranked teams. So it is a full battle in a sold-out stadium. The Sunday reactions show will settle who was right.
Next is Bowling Green laying 7.5 to Sacramento State, and it is a triple lock. Sac State is playing at 9 a.m. California time. CJ calls them the worst team he has ever seen, and Mac floats Bowling Green as a contest play. Then Texas A&M gets 3.5 at Missouri, and CJ and Mac both bet the Tigers. CJ likes the matchup because Mizzou has the fourth-best run defense in the country. That forces Marcel Reed to throw against a pass defense ranked 85th. Colby leans A&M but backs away without a lock. Meanwhile Mac is all in on the West Virginia money line against Arizona, and the guys triple lock the Mountaineers.
Dogs And Money Lines Across The Saturday Board
The noon window is full of dogs. UCF gets a double lock from CJ and Mac at plus 10.5 against Oklahoma State. CJ thinks that line should be six at most, because the public loves Oklahoma State. NC State catches 3.5 at home against Wake Forest, and CJ and Mac lock the Wolfpack. CJ’s stat is that NC State is 10-2 against the spread as a home dog since 2020. Colby skips the side and bets the under 59.5 instead. Then North Carolina gets a triple lock at Pitt, with Mac predicting the Panthers lose seven straight. Colby also locks Ball State plus 37.5 at Northwestern after the Cardinals cashed for him last week.
Florida laying 11.5 to South Carolina turns into a battle. Colby and CJ lay it with the Gators, and CJ thinks Florida wins by 35. Mac takes the Gamecocks. Houston at Kansas State is another split, with Colby on the Houston money line. Mac and CJ take the Wildcats off a bye, laying 2.5 at home. CJ notes unranked home favorites against ranked Power Four teams are 63-30 straight up since 2016. Then Illinois gets a double lock at Michigan State, and so does Tulsa against Navy. So Colby is alone on Navy laying 2.5 there. And Mac locks Cal plus 9.5 against Virginia Tech, with a sprinkle on the money line.
Charlotte catching 28.5 at North Texas gets a triple lock because it is too many points. CJ locks Eastern Michigan laying 6.5 at Akron, since Akron is down to third-string players everywhere. Stanford plus 37.5 at Notre Dame is a Mac lock. He and CJ also sprinkle the Stanford first-half money line at 25-1. Then the Red River Shootout gets a quadruple lock on Oklahoma plus 8.5. The total sits at 39.5, and Colby says take the points and every money line too. Mac and CJ double lock Oregon laying 11.5 to UCLA, because the Ducks look better with Raiola. So Colby takes UCLA but drops his lock.
The later games keep stacking up. Temple laying 3.5 to UConn and ECU laying 10.5 to Rice both get double locks. Colby is on Rice anyway, despite ECU’s homecoming. Mac and CJ also bet Maryland plus 34.5 at Ohio State, which has Indiana on deck. Arkansas gets locked on the first-half money line against Tennessee, and Tennessee has Alabama next week. Oregon State laying 14.5 to San Diego State is a double lock. Then Colby and Mac lock Marshall laying 2.5 against Coastal Carolina. CJ locks the over 58.5 in that game instead. Memphis laying 13.5 to UAB is a triple lock, and CJ calls it one of his favorite plays.
North Dakota State laying 3.5 at UNLV is a lock for Colby and Mac. CJ takes UNLV as a home dog in a battle. Kentucky plus 9.5 against LSU is Colby’s lock, while Mac takes LSU and CJ loves the under. Penn State laying 1.5 to USC in a whiteout is a triple lock. Northern Illinois also gets a triple lock against Air Force, and Colby got the money line in at plus 260. Then Mac and CJ lock Georgia Southern plus 7.5 against JMU. The Ragin’ Cajuns catch 2.5 at Louisiana Tech and get a double lock too.
Alabama laying 1.5 to Georgia is the marquee game, and the total has dropped to 51.5 because of the weather. Colby goes very light on Bama, about 50 bucks. Mac locks Georgia as a dog, and he eventually talks CJ onto the Dogs too. Then Purdue catching 2.5 against Minnesota gets a double lock from Colby and Mac. Mac and CJ double lock Utah at home against Kansas, and Colby bets the over 50.5. Boise State laying 6.5 at Fresno State is a lock for Colby and Mac. But CJ takes Fresno, because wild things happen in that rivalry. And Arizona State laying 20.5 to a banged-up Hawaii is a triple lock, the best play on the board.
The College Football Week 6 Picks That Made The Card
Last week was the crew’s first losing week, a 2-5 run full of bad beats. CJ walks through them one by one. South Carolina was up 17, and Marshall had 450 yards of offense but still failed to cover 18.5. So this week’s contest card leans hard on the best spots. Arizona State minus 20.5 leads it, followed by Penn State minus 1.5 and ECU laying around 10. Bowling Green minus 7.5 and Oregon State minus 14.5 are also on it. Stanford is the ugly dog, the ugliest one CJ could think of. And UNC plus 3.5 rounds out the seven, with CJ saying they won’t need the points.
Colby also promised his own top plays after listeners complained he was holding them back. Number one is Arizona State laying 20.5 against Hawaii. Number two is UTSA laying 13.5 on Thursday night. Then he takes Oklahoma plus 8.5 in the Red River Shootout and Memphis laying 13.5. His fifth play is laying it with Boise, though Florida and West Virginia were close calls. He also shares a card from another show, where everyone battled until they finally agreed on Oklahoma. That card has USC on it, and CJ calls that a terrible play.
