MMA Regional Pick of the Week: LFA 242
LFA Bantamweight Fight: Shuya Kamikubo vs Marcos Breno
Card Start Time: Friday (9/18), 6:00pm EST (VICE TV)
We have a co-main event on Friday that features a former Road to UFC fighter up against a Bellator and PFL veteran. While both have found success elsewhere, they look to use their platform at LFA 242 to get them back to the top.
Marcos Breno enters as the underdog thanks largely to two things. The first is a nearly two-year layoff that has everybody questioning what kind of shape he might be in. The next is the fact that he’s lost each of his last two fights. However, if you’re looking at more than just the results, you can see that he looked good in those fights. Facing former Bellator champion, Raufeon Stots, and current RIZIN champion, Danny Sabatello, he was able to stuff some takedowns and let his hands go. While he tired in both of those fights, he did show what he has the capabilities to do.
Kamikubo is going to want to impose that same gameplan on him. He loves to drag the fight to the mat. The problem for him is that we’ve seen issues with his gas tank as well. If that doesn’t have to be part of the worry in Breno’s game, he should be able to let go of his hands and pick up the upset win.
