NFC East Preview: CJ Bombs the TV Division
CJ Sullivan closes out the division-preview run with his NFC East preview. After all, this is the division he only half-jokingly calls the TV Division. First, he walks the entire slate on his own. He hits win totals, best bets, and the schedule traps that could sink each team. Then, to cap it off, Eagles insider Darren DeGaetano of WIP and NFL Films rolls in late to break down Philly. By the end, CJ has landed on an under for nearly the whole division and an over on exactly one team. Football is finally back, and he is ready to bomb it.
He starts in Washington. Here a five-and-12 team is betting its entire season on Jayden Daniels being great again. Behind him, though, sits an offensive line that one beat writer literally called inoperable a week before kickoff. Meanwhile, the new coordinator wants Daniels under center, a spot he has never loved. Also, the defense that finished 31st a year ago still has real holes. As CJ sees it, this team already looks dead walking into September. For that reason, he wants no part of the seven-and-a-half win total. Bomb the under.
From there he moves to the Giants. They are the other kind of bad, the fun kind. For starters, Jaxson Dart runs headfirst into brick walls, and Cam Skattebo does Cam Skattebo things. Better yet, Brian Daboll is finally gone in favor of some adults in the building. Still, the roster has talent, and CJ sees a soft opening stretch. That run could even produce a 5-1 or 5-2 start. Then, right on cue, he expects the whole thing to unravel down the back half of the schedule. So even with the early wins on the table, he lands on the under seven and a half again.
Dallas is the buzzy pick of the division. Even so, CJ is not buying the hype. Sure, the offense is loaded with Dak, CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, and a kicker with a cannon. But the roster is top-heavy with almost no depth. The defense was historically bad a year ago, too. Meanwhile, the schedule hides a brutal three-games-in-12-days stretch with a trip to Brazil in the middle. If a few injuries hit that thin roster, things could go sideways fast. In the end, he fades the buzz and bombs the under nine and a half.
Then Darren DeGaetano arrives to close it out on the Eagles. His through-line is simple. In his view, the defense carries this team through September and October while a new offense finds its timing. Of course, the receiver room behind DeVonta Smith is a real question now that AJ Brown is gone. Jalen Hurts also has to get comfortable in a run-heavy, play-action, under-center system. Also, the offensive line has to get healthy and back to its elite form. Even so, that defense has a chance to be the best in the league. Indeed, it is anchored by Jalen Carter, a breakout camp from a young edge rusher, and a hundred-million-dollar bet on the pass rush. Darren’s floor is 12 wins, and CJ calls a 10.5 win total a gift. Take the over.
Along the way there is plenty of chaos, too. Naturally, CJ works in the Patriots Mirror-Gate scandal and a Man in the Box detour that clears half the chat room. He also brings back the SGPN Free Roll Football Contest for the new season. By the time the credits roll, the message is clear. The NFC East may be the TV division, but CJ has an under on almost every screen.
