MMA Regional Pick of the Week: KSW 120
KSW Light Heavyweight Fight: Rafał Haratyk vs Bartosz Leśko
Card Start Time: Saturday (7/18), 1:00pm EST (Internet PPV)
The main event on Saturday afternoon features a pair of fighters battling it out for the KSW light heavyweight title. But there are higher stakes than simply a belt on the line. These two met just eight months prior in a hotly contested decision. Haratyk took the first fight. Since then, Leśko picked up another win and earned himself another shot at glory.
While Haratyk won the first, I’m favoring Leśko in this fight. In the first meeting, he looked like the better fighter in nearly every arena. He was sharper on the feet and appeared to be much faster as well. His footwork and pressure also seemed to trump the work of Haratyk.
The reason why Leśko lost the first fight really comes down to risk management. As a talented striker, he felt comfortable trying a number of spinning attacks. This allowed Haratyk chances to close the distance as well as chances to get a hold of Leśko for grappling exchanges. While the majority of that was wasted in just pinning Leśko up against the cage, the judges appeared to have scored that control fairly heavily.
If Leśko just mitigates that risk by using less of his high risk maneuvers, he should cruise to an easy decision. I also wouldn’t be surprised if that gives him enough opportunities to get the stoppage in the rematch.
