MMA Same Game Parlay of the Week: UFC 329
UFC 329 Bantamweight Fight: Cory Sandhagen vs Mario Bautista
Start Time: 5:00pm EST (Paramount+)
The main event is not the only rematch on this card. On the main card, Cory Sandhagen and Mario Bautista throw down in a rematch of their 2019 fight. Sandhagen took the first fight when he found a first round arm bar after being taken down by Bautista. Neither of those guys look remotely like that version of themselves, but there is a pretty clear indication of the kind of fight we’ll get.
Bautista has leaned on his ability to take away space and grapple in recent fights. He notably held Jose Aldo against the cage for more than seven minutes of their fight en route to a unanimous decision. Against a talented striker like Sandhagen, you have to imagine he’s going to be looking for the takedowns again. Sandhagen has been taken down at least twice in each of his last three fights and overall sports just a 56% takedown defense. As a result, we’ll start this same-game parlay with a couple of takedowns from Bautista.
The second thing we’ll add to it is the volume from Sandhagen. While I do expect him to be defending lots of takedowns, he has always been able to rack up strikes. Despite being taken down 20 times by Merab Dvalishvili, he still managed to find a home for 80 strikes. That marked his third straight fight with at least 50 strikes, which he has also done in seven of his last eight. We’ll tack that on to the Bautista takedowns and get some underdog money.
