While the UFC continues to be the king when it comes to MMA and gambling, there is more MMA than ever to bet on now. Promotions all over the world as well as domestic ones are showing up in sportsbooks. The advantage here is that the data is usually quite a bit less sharp than when you’re making MMA predictions for the UFC. So we’ve decided to dig into some each week to get you started on your regional MMA journey. This week we keep it domestic for LFA 235 from Louisville, Kentucky for our regional MMA pick.

MMA Regional Pick of the Week: LFA 235
LFA Middleweight Fight: David Wright vs Jake Woodley
Card Start Time: Friday (6/19), 7:00pm EST (VICE TV)
A pair of middleweights with lots of potential do battle in Friday’s co-main event. Both fighters come in with solid looking records and well-rounded skillsets. However, there’s some value on the underdog here, who I happen to think is a touch more well-rounded.
David Wright should hold a slight advantage on the feet over Jake Woodley. He has the ability to get in and out of range a bit better, and is also better at mixing up the looks. His speed should also help him be more active and stay out of trouble.
On the grappling side, I would be inclined to give a pure wrestling advantage to Jake Woodley. However, with Wright’s strength in wrestling defense, I do expect it to be close. That should leave Woodley in a place where he does not often find himself – struggling to finish shots. The only other time we’ve seen that, he was promptly submitted. I could see Wright exploiting that and possibly the cardio as well. With those facets on his side along with the hands, he should score as an underdog here.
