MMA Regional Pick of the Week: UAE Warriors 70
UAE Warriors Heavyweight Fight: Badr Medkouri vs Eduardo Neves
Card Start Time: Friday (5/8), 10:00am EST (UFC Fight Pass)
In the first end of this UAE Warriors double header, we get a closely contested heavyweight bout that could catapault either fighter to huge things in the sport. Eduardo Neves has had two chances at the big show with a Dana White Contender Series bout – which he dropped to Jhonata Diniz and Mick Parkin. Badr Medkouri rides a five-fight TKO streak and looks for one of those opportunities for himself.
Stylistically, I like the chances for Neves in this fight. For a man of his size, he moves extremely well. He has good footwork and keeps his head off of the center line. Additionally, he has surprising cardio for a big man too. This should help carry him in a fight against Medkouri.
The Frenchman sits down on his strikes much more. That typically makes him a dangerous counter striker and he has the ability to sleep most opponents. However, with the elusivity of his Brazilian opponent, that means a lot of swinging and missing. Medkouri has much more suspect cardio and missing on shots can often make that much worse.
Look for Neves to be on his bike and eventually to pick Medkouri apart.
