NBA First Scorer Props – January 13
Detroit Pistons vs. new York Knicks
Tipoff – 7:30 pm EST
Madison Square Garden – New York. NY
Broadcast – NBA TV
The visitors will come into the city that never sleeps with a big advantage on the early bucket stats. For one they have an 8.9% lead on the tip. When you consider that the tip winner is currently getting 65.0% of the first scores in the league, that’s a lead that is worth mentioning. Even more important is the fact that the Pistons are converting those early possessions better than the Knicks as well. They currently outpace the Knicks by 14.0% when it comes to scoring first in games. With those two key indicators in their favor, we’ll snag someone from Detoit here.
Over the last three games, two players have dominated the early shot attempts for the Pistons. If you take the first three shots in each of the last three games, Tobias Harris and Malik Beasley have taken 55.6% of all of them. Heading into Monday’s action, you can be sure that Beasley won’t even be in the starting lineup. With that being said, the most active guy here is clearly Harris and we’re sure to get him at a nice number.
First Scorer Bet for January 13: Tobias Harris (TBD)
Golden State Warriors vs. Toronto raptors
Tipoff – 7:30 pm EST
Scotiabank Arena – Toronto, ON
Broadcast – NBA TV
Monday’s game north of the border is another with clear indicators we need to keep an eye on. The Raptors have the third best rate of converting first scores in the league this year (61.5%). Meanwhile, the Warriors are hanging out in the bottom third of the league with just 44.7%. Also, while the Raptors aren’t the best team in the league on the tip (44.6%), they are substantially better than the Warriors, who rank 29th in that category. With as bad as the Warriors are on the early game action, let’s take a Toronto player here.
Four out of the last five first buckets that the Warriors have allowed have been to opposing guards. There is obviously a slew of shooters from the Raptors that fit this bill, but one I’m looking at is Gradey Dick. He took the first shot in Wednesday’s game against the Knicks and they seem committed to getting him going in games that will require a ton of points. This might be one of them here and so I’m banking on a deep ball coming out of his hands fresh out of the gate.
First Scorer Bet for January 13: Gradey Dick (TBD)
