NBA First Scorer Props – December 12
Detroit Pistons vs. Boston Celtics

The Pistons walk into Boston tonight with a huge advantage on the tip. The Pistons are pulling down 56.0% of the first possessions on the year. Compare that with the mere 33.3% the Celtics are getting and that should already have you heading towards the Pistons side. However, you can add in that the Celtics have been worse on the jump with a healthy Kristaps Porzingis – they’ve won just 20.0% with him in the circle. Additionally, the Pistons are in the top ten of first scores and have a 14.2% lead over the Celtics in that category.
The Pistons have been pretty good at spreading the ball out lately. However, we’ve seen one name pop up more in recent action that can’t be ignored. In the last two games, we’ve seen a lot of early game action for down-ballot Tobias Harris. He took the second shot for the Pistons in the last game. In the game prior to that, he took their first attempt. With odds nearing four-figures and that kind of volume, it’s hard to ignore Harris in this spot.

In this game, the tip favors the Heat pretty steadily. They’re winning the top 15.6% more than the Raptors, and on the year tip winner are getting 65.1% of the first buckets. However, before jumping to that side, consider the conversions. The Heat, despite those tip numbers, are scoring first just 36.3% of the time. That gives them the single biggest difference between their tip numbers and conversions. The Raptors, while getting a below average number of tip wins, are 7th in the league at scoring first with 60.0%.
The action for the Raptors early is all one-way traffic. In the last two games, the first three shots have looked as such: Poeltl-Dick-Barnes and Dick-Dick-Barnes. That’s a lot of action for those latter two names, and one of them is going to be out injured for this game – Scottie Barnes. As a result, we have 50% of that early action with Dick and that number could conceivably go up. He also doesn’t have odds to sneeze at, so we’ll get down with him here.
