NBA First Scorer Props – November 15
Washington Wizards vs. Atlanta Hawks
Tipoff – 7:30 pm EST
State Farm Arena – Atlanta, GA
Broadcast – NBA TV
The Hawks continue to be one of the very best teams in the league on the early game action. They rank in the top three in tip percentage. Clint Capela seems to have turned a new gear from his action last year and it’s paying off for the Hawks. They currently rank number one in first basket success percentage. That should be plenty to get ahead of this Wizards team, who has been terrible in both categories. They are significantly below league average in both categories and as a result, we’ll rise with Atlanta here.
Over the nine first buckets that Atlanta has, there is one player who stands above the rest in terms of success. Zaccharie Risacher has a third of those and it getting plenty of early looks too. He had the first shot last game for the Hawks. Additionally, he had the fourth shot the game before and the second shot the game before that. With all of that action early, and all of those successes, we’ll ride with him to keep it going.

Memphis Grizzlies vs. Golden State Warriors
Tipoff – 10:00 pm EST
Chase Center – San Francisco, CA
Broadcast – ESPN
The Grizzlies are another of the best teams in the league when it comes to jumps and first scores. They are grabbing the tip at a 72.7% rate and using a pair of different tip guys who are both successful. Whether it’s Zach Edey going for the jump or Jaren Jackson Jr, they have been solid. That rate comes in 45% higher than the Warriors. Additionally, they are outscoring the Warriors as well. In fact, they’re the third in the league at scoring first. That should be enough for us to trust Memphis here.
The Grizzlies are pretty good at spreading out the love on the first buckets. One guy who keeps popping up in the play log is the aforementioned Jaren Jackson Jr. He’s getting tons of early looks and does have 25% of the teams’ first scores on the year. Additionally, the last four first scores that the Warriors have allowed have been in the paint or on drives to the bucket. With Ja Morant out for tonight, I assume that Jaren Jackson Jr. is one of the most likely to do precisely that here.
