NBA First Scorer Props – November 13

Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Philadelphia 76ers

Tipoff – 7:30 pm EST
Wells Fargo Center – Philadelphia, PA
Broadcast – NBA TV

The Cavaliers are one of the very best teams in the league – not just in record, but on the early game activity too. They have won 10 of the 12 tips that Jarrett Allen has taken this year, which outpaces the 5-of-10 mark from the 76ers. However, it is worth mentioning that Joel Embiid is back and is better on the tips than Andre Drummond. However, I find reassurance in the fact that the 76ers aren’t finishing many of the tips that they win. Despite having five tip wins, they have just two first scores all year. The Cavaliers are a league average team in that metric and that’s enough to swing me to their side.

While it’s always more fun to go down ballot and look for fat odds, sometimes the chalk makes all the sense in the world. Donovan Mitchell has been the go-to shooter early for the Cavaliers. He’s taken the first shot in back-to-back games. Additionally, with Embiid back in the middle they are going to rely even more on someone who can shoot and doesn’t need to be in the lane to pick up the score. As a result, we’ll take Mitchell to get on the board first.

First Scorer Bet for November 13: Donovan Mitchell (+500)

New Orleans Pelicans vs. Oklahoma City Thunder

Tipoff – 7:30 pm EST
Paycom Center – Oklahoma City, OK
Broadcast – NBA TV

If you just look at the raw team data, you might lean to Oklahoma City. Afterall, they do have twice as many tip wins as the Pelicans. However, that fails to factor in one important detail – the loss of Chet Holmgren. Holmgren has regularly been one of the better tip guys in the league and is out for a couple months with a hip injury. In this absence, the Thunder are using 6’5″ Jalen Williams on the tip (and seemingly at Center). Yves Missi has not been stellar, but will have half of a foot advantage on Williams. He should be good enough to grab that opening tip, which leads to the first bucket more than two-thirds of the time.

Again, I love a big number on a guy, but sometimes the team’s biggest star makes the most sense. Brandon Ingram is one on Wednesday that makes the most sense. He has two of the teams last three first shots. Additionally, he’s been featured in the team’s first three shots in each of the last four games. He gets to the line enough where that’s an early possibility as well. As a result, we’ll lean on him for tonight’s action.

First Scorer Bet for November 13: Brandon Ingram (+550)
