However, we spent the time pouring through the analytics to make sure that we give you the best odds to stay in the green on these first scorer props for November 12.

NBA First Scorer Props – November 12
Miami Heat vs. Detroit Pistons
Tipoff – 7:00 pm EST
Little Caesars Arena – Detroit, MI
Broadcast – NBA TV
This game features a pair of teams doing pretty similarly on the tip. The Heat are a touch better, winning six of the nine start of game jumps on the year. The Pistons are not terribly far behind with five of eleven.
While jump winners are getting roughly two-thirds of the first buckets this year, I’m going to ho with the team with the lower success rate. That’s because the Heat are having an awful time trying to finish any of these. They have just three first buckets dispite having twice as many jump wins. The Pistons are on the other end of that spectrum – outpacing their jump wins with seven first buckets. I’ll ride the 30% better finish rate tonight.
It hard to narrow down what the Pistons are going to look like in the early game. Sometimes it looks like all they care about is getting into the paint and drawing contact. On other days they just want to fire from far away. I’m going to go with someone happy to do either – Tobias Harris. He’s been drawing a lot more fouls as of late and he’s shooting well over four three-pointers a game right now. Add in that he has a decent record at getting an early shot for them and it solidifies the pick for me.

Phoenix Suns vs. Utah Jazz
Tipoff – 9:00 pm EST
Delta Center – Salt Lake City, UT
Broadcast – NBA TV
There is currently no team in the league scoring more first buckets than the Jazz. In nine games this year, they’ve only failed to score first once. Some of that is due to Walker Kessler, who is grabbing 77.8% of all tips this year – and was putting up solid numbers last year as well. Some of that is also due to the Jazz shooting at a high percentage. While the Suns are also good on the tip, they are just league average when it comes to scoring first. As a result, we’ll snag someone from Utah.
With eight successes on the first bucket, there is plenty of data to look at for Utah. Three different players have scored multiple times to kick off games – Collin Sexton, Walker Kessler and Keyonte George. With nothing to really separate them, it’s good to look to what kinds of guys are scoring first against the Suns. The last three first scorers against them have been Daniel Gafford, Andre Drummond and Deandre Ayton. All three of those guys are big men, which leads me to believe it’s a trend we should follow. As a result, we’ll take the big man in the middle for the Jazz as well.
