NBA First Scorer Props – November 10
Charlotte Hornets vs. Philadelphia 76ers
Tipoff – 7:00 pm EST
Wells Fargo Center – Philadelphia, PA
Broadcast – NBA TV
The 76ers are one of two teams in the league this year without multiple first buckets. Both they are the Bulls have just one on the year. There are other disadvantages they have coming in to this game. One of them being that the Hornets have turned to Taj Gibson to take their tips. While he may not be an all-star this year, he is quite good on the jump. He has won two of the three attempts so far, with the only loss coming to the solid Myles Tuner. Additionally, the Hornets are above average at finishing the first buckets too, which tells me to head to Charlotte with this pick.
In the last two games, Brandon Miller has dominated a lot of the early action from the Hornets. He took two of the first three shots in their last game – including the first. He had one of the first three in the game before that as well. Miller is also shooting far more three-pointers now. He has eleven attempts in back-to-back games. With 41.4% of the points against Philadelphia being from three-point in their last game, I like Miller to exploit that.
First Scorer Bet for November 10: Brandon Miller (+750)
Memphis Grizzlies vs. Portland Trail Blazers
Tipoff – 9:00 pm EST
Moda Center – Portland, OR
Broadcast – NBA TV
A quick scan of the tipoff data here won’t tell you much about who is going to score first. Both tip guys on the Grizzlies are solid – Jaren Jackson and Zach Edey – as is Deandre Ayton for Porland. The Grizzlies have combined to win eight out of their ten tips, with the Blazers getting seven out of ten in their games.
The difference here comes in their ability to convert those wins into buckets. On the year, the Grizzlies have scored seven first buckets in their ten games. That puts them in the top five of the league. Meanwhile, the Blazers, despite their success on the tip, are in the bottom three of the league. They have scored first just twice all season. With those numbers, we have to go with someone from Memphis here.
There’s a lot of banged up guards in Memphis. Ja Morant and Desmond Bane are both out tonight, with Marcus Smart questionable. As a result, a lot of the early shots have been coming from bench guys. Brandon Clarke took the first couple last game, but it was Jaylen Wells who has been getting bulk attempts leading up to it. The Washington State product has been shooting well from the outside for the most part, and I like him to splash one early here.
First Scorer Bet for November 10: Jaylen Wells (+1000)
