Game 3 of the NBA Finals could have been the nail in the coffin for the Mavericks. They trailed by 21 points in the 4th quarter with 11:07 left in the game. The Mavericks cut the lead down to 1 point before Luka Doncic picked up his sixth foul. However, the Celtics made plays down the stretch and took a commanding 3-0 lead.
Luka Doncic’s lack of defense and consistent complaining to the referees about the lack of foul calls contributed to the Mavericks’ defeat. What is the Mavericks’ mentality now?
Have they checked out? Possibly. But it comes down to the fact that the Celtics have a different player who can set up every night, which makes this team very difficult to beat.
Another huge disparity in the series has been the three-point shooting. Both teams have not shot the ball particularly well from beyond the arc. However, the difference in the fourth quarter has been the Celtics’ ability to make three-point shots and Mavericks trading for two-point shots.
