Underdog Fantasy NBA Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – June 9
Derrick Jones Jr. – Higher than 0.5 1st Quarter Points
After the defensive display of the Celtics in Game 1, it’s hard to get behind any ‘Higher than’ projections for Mavericks on points. However, I really liked the early volume from Jones Jr. He took three of his nine shots in the first quarter including two threes. He did, in fact, score in the first quarter of that game – and therefore would have beat this projection. He’s also taken multiple first quarter shots in four straight games.
Kristaps Porzingis – Higher than 3.5 1st Quarter Points
Maybe we’re buying high on Porzingis here, but I can’t imagine that after Game 1 Porzingis isn’t going to be a huge part of this offense. He didn’t even start that game and Porzingis still went 4-of-5 from the field. It seems like he couldn’t miss early. He likely won’t be as unstoppable in Game 2, but two shots made in the early going – especially if he starts – should be a lock.
Kyrie Irving – Higher than 22.5 points
Boston didn’t exactly welcome back their former point guard with open arms. He was met with a chorus of boos every time he touched the ball and the defense was even less welcoming. The result was a meager 12 points and clear frustration. Again, there will likely be regression to the mean from his 6-for-19 performance, but I’m not sure there will be enough to get up to that projection.
