Underdog Fantasy NBA Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – May 7

Jayson Tatum – Lower than 41.5 Points + Rebounds + Assists

During the three matchups between Tatum and the Cavaliers this year, Tatum failed to make this projection in each of them. While he had a double-double in each and a reasonable day scoring, the big deterrent was the lack of assists.

He put up just 10 assists in those three games despite a 4.9 per game average over the year. That’s been the case with him at home in the Heat series as well. Over the last two home games, he took more of a score-first role and only managed three assists in each game. Combine that with Cleveland’s pace and stingy defense and the ‘Lower than’ is looking nice here.

Evan Mobley – Lower than 13.5 Points

One home/away split that I’m looking to exploit in this Game 1 is Evan Mobley’s points – or really any stat, for that matter. Mobley only averaged 12.1 points per game over the series with the Magic, but that was largely buoyed by his play at home.

On the road, he averaged just 9.0 points per game and was held to just three in game six (and that was over 34 minutes of playing time). The Celtics were a top-five defensive team in the league, so that should make things even harder on Mobley here.

Luka Doncic – Higher than 9.5 Assists

There was a clear trend down the stretch of the Mavericks/Clippers series. When the series needed a hero, and Doncic was putting more pressure on himself, he made a conscious choice to be a better distributor. It didn’t affect his scoring lines all that much, but it was clear he was going to play more from the top and give up some rebounds to create for his team.

As a result, we saw a dip in his boards from double figures in back-to-back games to seven for the last two games. We also saw a spike in his dimes. While this is a whole new series, I expect him to stick with what is working and work more from up top.
