NBA First FG Props – April 16

Los Angeles Lakers vs. New Orleans Pelicans

Tipoff – 7:30 pm EST
Smoothie King Center – New Orleans, Louisiana
Broadcast – TNT

These two teams had virtually no difference when it came to first bucket success on the regular season. Over an 82-game season, the Lakers got 43 first buckets compared to 42 for the Pelicans. That’s certainly not enough to get a lean, which means we need to rely on the tip data for a side.

The problem with that method is that the tip data is virtually identical too. Anthony Davis has a slight 6.4% advantage over Jonas Valanciunas in terms of tip wins. The head-to-head isn’t helpful either with the Pelicans winning two out of three tips, and the Lakers getting two out of three first buckets. If we have to pick a side with so little to separate, I’ll take the small tip lead and the head-to-head advantage with the successes.

If we’re going with the Lakers here, I think Anthony Davis has to be the play. He’s had their last two first buckets in the regular season. He also has four of their last six and the last head-to-head first bucket against the Pelicans.

First FG Bet for April 16: Anthony Davis (+425)

Golden State Warriors vs. Sacramento Kings

Tipoff – 10:00 pm EST
Golden 1 Center – Sacramento, California
Broadcast – TNT

The tip lead here for the Warriors should be enough to get them the first bucket. Domantas Sabonis was one of the very worst tip guys in the league. He won just 28.1% of his tips, which makes his third worse amongst tip guys with at least 41 tips. Trayce Jackson-Davis has been adequate for the Warriors since taking over the jumps. He has a 50.0% win rate in a small sample size.

The Warriors last first bucket before the season ended was by Steph Curry. Prior to that, Andrew Wiggins had five straight first scores for Golden State. Wiggins ended the season with 10, but seven of those have been since February 10th. Let’s ride that hot hand.

First FG Bet for April 16: Andrew Wiggins (+500)
