NBA First FG Props – April 2
Milwaukee Bucks vs. Washington Wizards
Tipoff – 7:00 pm EST
Capital One Arena – Washington, DC
Broadcast – NBA League Pass
The Bucks come in at the 8th spot in terms of first field goal success rate. They have scored first in 55.4% of all games this season. That gives them a solid 8.7% advantage over the Wizards, who are down in 24th place in the league. However, the advantages for the Bucks down end there.
The Bucks have a massive 19.4% advantage on the Wizards in terms of winning the tip. The Wizards are a brutal 27th in the NBA at winning the tip. Brook Lopez isn’t the best tip guy in the league, but he should be more than enough to get an early possession for Milwaukee.
I may sound like a broken record, but the obvious play for the Bucks is Giannis Antetokounmpo. He’s obviously their best player, but he’s been even more dominant early in the game. He has five of their last ten first buckets and even a larger share of the early shots in the game. Let’s rinse and repeat here.

Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Utah Jazz

The Jazz are one of my favorite teams to fade on the early bucket. They hardly ever get the first possession with just a 41.3% win rate on the tip (good for 24th). They’re even worse when it comes to the actual first field goal success. They are ranked dead last in the league and score first in just a third of games. The fact that the Cavaliers are 5th in first field goal success and tied for first on the tip is just a cherry on top.
In the last three games, Max Strus has taken one of the Cavaliers’ first three shots each time. The team is finally healthy, so they have a few more options. However, that just makes his number a little sweeter for us here.
