NBA First FG Props – March 13

Brooklyn Nets vs. Orlando Magic

Tipoff – 7:00 pm EST
Kia Center – Orlando, Florida
Broadcast – NBA League Pass

There’s just a slight advantage to the Nets when you look at their ability to get the first bucket. They rank 15th compared to the Magic, who rank 24th, when it comes to first field goal success. Those average numbers are both stymied by the fact that they’ve had stretches with sub-optimal jump ball guys.

With both of their preferred jumpball options healthy, the lean is even further to the Nets. On the season, Nic Claxton has a 65.5% win rate on the jump, which puts him at 6th in the league amongst jumpers with at least 20 attempts. Wendell Carter is still coming in under 50%, which should give the Nets the first possession advantage here.

In the Nets’ last game, I went with Dorian Finney-Smith, who had been shooting plenty early for them recently. He didn’t get the first score, but did get another of their first three attempts. I’d hate to back off of him as it seems like he’s getting closer and closer, so let’s ride that line one more time.

First FG Bet for March 13: Dorian Finney-Smith (+1200)

Cleveland Cavaliers vs. New Orleans Pelicans

Tipoff – 8:00 pm EST
Smoothie King Center – New Orleans, Louisiana
Broadcast – NBA League Pass

The Cavaliers have a nice lead over the Pelicans in terms of the rate in which they get the first score. They’re 7th in the league and have a 9.5% advantage over the Pelicans. That’s not the most telling number for this game on Wednesday.

The most telling number is 70.8% – which happens to be the Cavaliers’ rate at which they win the tip. That number is actually a touch low when you consider how good Jarrett Allen has been on the jump, He, personally, has a 73.3% rate. Jonas Valanciunas is coming in under 50%, which means that the Cavaliers should have the first crack at scoring here.

Despite being my pick for scoring first, the Cavaliers are plenty beat up at the moment. They have Evan Mobley and Max Strus out for the game. Donovan Mitchell is also questionable for Wednesday. Those absences should lead the way for Isaac Okoro, who has already snagged three first buckets this year despite not being a regular starter and missing time due to injury. Also, when these two squared off back in December, Okoro scored first in that one too.

First FG Bet for March 13: Isaac Okoro (+900)
