The pickings are slim for this Saturday in the NBA. Three whole games after almost a week off?! And two of the three games appear to be squash matches, at least on paper. Cmon scheduling person! Anyhow, here are my NBA picks for February 24th. Go here for the latest NBA odds.

Orlando Magic vs. Detroit Pistons

Total: 228.5
Let’s not overthink this one. The Detroit Pistons stink, and their starting big man, Isaiah Stewart, will miss this game while serving a suspension. And the Pistons aren’t just losing – they are getting drubbed every game. They’ve lost their last three games by double digits. The Orlando Magic don’t stink, and they should cover the 8.5-point spread for us. No play on the total – it looks to be in the right range for me.

Brooklyn Nets vs. Minnesota Timberwolves
Tipoff – 9:00 pm EST
Spread: Timberwolves -8.5
Total: 218
Do you know who else stinks? The Brooklyn Nets, that’s who. They’ve lost their last two games by 50(!!) and 28 points. Saturday’s opponent, the Minnesota Timberwolves, have the NBA’s third-best home record going into Friday’s action at a stellar 19-5. This is the second night of a back-to-back for the Wolves, but I don’t care. Minnesota -8.5 is the play. As for the total, 218 is about five to 10 points lower than I feel it should be, so let’s sprinkle some on the Over.
