NBA First FG Props – January 14
Charlotte Hornets vs. Miami Heat
Tipoff – 6:00 pm EST
Kaseya Center – Miami, Florida
Broadcast – NBA League Pass
The Heat have put up solid numbers on the early game stats. They are 11th in the league in grabbing the first bucket, which is a touch behind their tipoff data. On the tip, they come in at 65.8%, which is good enough for 4th in the league. The Hornets run on the other side of the table for both. They aren’t awful at the tip, but still are 18th in the league. They’re also one of the worst teams in the league on the first field goal at 38.9% (good for 28th).
I rode Nikola Jovic last time out to a +900 score. With the team still a little banged up, we’re still not sure how many of those spots in the starting lineup are going to go to reserves. By the look of the injury report, Jimmy Butler seems like he’ll be on the sideline. His replacement has been getting a lot of early looks, including the second shot on Friday. Give me Jaime Jaquez Jr. to keep the bench love going for the Heat.
First FG Bet for January 14: Jaime Jaquez Jr. (+750)
Phoenix Suns vs. Portland Trailblazers
Tipoff – 9:00 pm EST
Moda Center – Portland, Oregon
Broadcast – NBA League Pass
Similar to the way the Hornets were easy to fade, the Blazers don’t have great numbers early. They’re 25th in the league in first bucket percentages and 20th on the tip. Deandre Ayton is questionable, which means Duop Reath may be taking the tip again, and he’s grabbing them at just 11.1%. The Suns haven’t been stellar on the first field goal, but they are second on the tip. That should be enough against the Blazers here.
He hasn’t been getting a lot of the early buckets on the season for a guy of his profile, but Kevin Durant has been getting a lot of early looks. He took the second shot in their last game and the first one in the game before that. It seems like a matter of time before he storms the lane and slams one home to kick us off.
First FG Bet for January 14: Kevin Durant (+600)
