NBA First FG Props – January 10
Houston Rockets vs. Chicago Bulls
Tipoff – 8:00 pm EST
United Center – Chicago, Illinois
Broadcast – NBA League Pass
It might be hard to come around on a team like the Bulls, who are winning just 42.1% of the tips and an identical number of the first bucket. However, they have two things going for them here. Firstly, the Rockets are barely better in those two categories – 42.9% in each of them. Additionally, since Nikola Vucevic has been out or on the bench with an injury, Andre Dummond has been money on the tip. He’s won six of his seven and the Bulls scored first on the one he lost as well.
With Drummond on the tip, he’s also scored half of the first buckets that the Bulls have scored. Big tall guys have the last two first buckets against the Rockets, so he fits the bill for that. Plus, a play on him gets voided if this is in fact the game where Vucevic, who is atrocious on the tip, gets back in to start.

Toronto Raptors vs. Los Angeles Clippers

There’s a lot of different stats that you can weed through when looking for a winner on the first bucket. However, there’s not anything more straight forward than looking at a team’s ability to actually score it. In this case, the Clippers are terrible at it – they’re getting it just a third of the time, which puts them in 29th in the league. The Raptors are nearly 37% higher than that and currently rank first. Poeltl being out could be a bit of a hinderance, but not enough to overlook those numbers.
The Raptors have 26 first buckets on the year. Ten of those buckets belong to Scottie Barnes. The last four failures on the Clippers side have come to shooters who have a profile not that different to Barnes, so let’s put him down for another here.
