NBA First FG Props – November 8
Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Oklahoma City Thunder
Tipoff – 8:00 pm EST
Paycom Center – Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Broadcast – NBA League Pass
The Thunder have a great start to the season on the tip but an even better time capturing that first bucket. A large part of both of those things is the new kid on the block, Chet Holmgren. He’s 4-3 on the tipoff, and sound defense has gotten them a pair of first buckets even when he doesn’t win the tip.
What’s even more impressive about what’s going down with Chet Holmgren is that they’re looking his way early in the games now, too. He’s won each of the last three tips, but he’s also scored the first bucket in each of those games. It seems a bit chalky and like he can’t possibly keep this up, but at +550, I’m willing to take that stab.
First FG Bet for November 8: Chet Holmgren (+650)
Boston Celtics vs. Philadelphia 76ers
Tipoff – 7:00 pm EST
Wells Fargo Center – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Broadcast – NBA League Pass
This game is going to be between two of the best teams in the East and a barnburner, for sure. However, the early game data that we worry about could not be further apart. The Celtics are 5-1 on the tip and have the first bucket in every game that they’ve played. The 76ers are just 1-5 on the tip and 1-5 in getting the first bucket. This should be obvious the side to play.
Brown and Tatum might be the “j”s that people think of when they think of the Celtics, but there’s another who is getting quite a few early looks. With the attention on those two and the new big man, Jrue Holiday has quietly hit 33% of their first field goals so far. It’s worth noting those aren’t after missed attempts by other players – in both cases, it was the team’s first shot.
First FG Bet for November 8: Jrue Holiday (+1150)
Washington Wizards vs. Charlotte Hornets
Tipoff – 7:00 pm EST
Spectrum Center – Charlotte, North Carolina
Broadcast – NBA League Pass
The Wizards have been one of the league’s worst teams on the season at 1-5. They’re identical when it comes to the early game stats, where they’re 1-5 on the tip and 1-5 on the first field goal. Both of those ‘wins’ came against the aforementioned 76ers, who have also proven terrible on that front. The Hornets are hardly world-beaters in these early stats, but they should be enough to get it done against the bottom.
As I said, the Hornets have not been killing it in the early game categories, so there’s not tons to go by. However, the Hornets’ game runs through LaMelo Ball. He really got going last game with a triple-double and was hitting the shot from deep. If he can continue that and continue to get 15+ shots a game, he’s as good of a play as anyone for this game and at a nice price.
First FG Bet for November 8: LaMelo Ball (+750)
