2023 Stadium Series: Capitals vs. Hurricanes Storylines
The Hurricanes come into this home outdoor game on a heater. They’ve won two straight after dropping a 6-2 decision to the Rangers in their first game out of the All-Star Break.
Carolina has been one of the best teams in the league this season.
Since a so-so start of 10-6-5, the Hurricanes are 26-4-3 in their last 33 games. They’ve gone 11-1-1 since losing four straight to start the new year. Rod Brind’Amour has done a tremendous job behind the Carolina bench.
Meanwhile, the Capitals are on the playoff bubble. They’re also without star forward Alex Ovechkin due to personal reasons.
Washington won in Boston in its first game after the break, but the Caps have lost three straight since to the Sharks, Hurricanes, and Panthers. They’ve been outscored 13-6 in those three games, losing by multiple goals to the Sharks and Panthers.

If you don’t like laying the juice of -190, consider the Hurricanes on the alt spread at -1 (-132). If that isn’t an option on your sportsbook, I don’t mind the -1.5 at +140. The Capitals don’t have much firepower without Ovechkin and the Hurricanes know how to hold a lead.
On the total, most outdoor games seem to go under. It’s harder to handle the puck on an outdoor rink so skill plays are kept to a minimum. I would lean to the under even if this game was indoors given the recent play by these two teams.
