The TBT moves into its second full week of games and we are set with two championship games that shouldn’t disappoint in the Syracuse and Wichita Regions. In the Syracuse Region, the #1 seed Boeheim’s Army were upset by The Nerd Team. Meanwhile, the #2 seed Blue Collar U grinded out a comeback win over the Friday Beers. In the Wichita Region, the #1 seed and home team AfterShocks won a physical drag-it-out fight over the Air Raiders. Additionally, Bleed Green stunned the Purple & Black in blowout fashion winning by 25 points. Let’s take a look at these championship matchups and give out TBT championship games’ best bets!
TBT Championship Betting Picks
Syracuse Region Final:
(2) Blue Collar U -5.0 vs (4) The Nerd Team
The Nerd Team’s run in TBT ended last year in the 1st round at the hands of Blue Collar U 88-82. On Monday night, they will get their chance at revenge and it will come in the regional final with a chance to advance to Dayton for the quarterfinals. The Nerd Team upset the defending champs in the semifinals behind 16/29 from beyond the arc.
They were led by a sharpshooter, Tyler Nelson who scored 23 points on 6-9 shooting from 3. Further, Nelson also hit the Elam Ending bank shot to seal the deal. Furthermore, Blue Collar U returns to the regional finals and are looking to get back to Dayton for a second consecutive year. In the semifinals, Blue Collar U erased a 10-point halftime deficit despite struggling to make perimeter shots throughout the game. Big man, Nick Perkins led the way with 21 points. Perkins was a big part of the reason why Blue Collar U scored 30 points in the paint and had 20 2nd chance points.
TBT Championship Betting Pick
The formula for The Nerd Team remains the same to pull another upset. They must make around 15 3’s to even have a chance to win the game. In fact, they have made 27 of 55 so far in this year’s TBT run. Blue Collar U love to run and get easy baskets in transition by getting the ball downhill with their good guard play.
I think the athleticism and length defensively for the Blue Collar U will limit The Nerd Team. As a result, the ability to get and make open shots off long misses for Blue Collar U will enable them to get out in transition. I like the home team in this regional final. The Buffalo alumni-based team to wear down The Nerd Team and advance to Dayton!
Pick: Blue Collar U -5.0
Wichita Region Final:
(1) AfterShocks -6.5 vs (7) Bleed Green
The Cinderella of this year’s TBT rolls into the Championship game on Monday night after knocking off the #3 seed Purple & Black and #2 seed Eberlein Drive. Bleed Green stunned the Purple & Black 87-62 in the semifinals in front of a Kansas St heavy crowd. In fact, Brandon Jefferson won the much-anticipated lead guard matchup against Jacob Pullen en route to the blowout victory. In fact, Jefferson did a little bit of everything with 21 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists.
The #1 seed AfterShocks won a physical war with the Air Raiders 70-60 in the other semifinal matchup. The game saw nearly 40 fouls and both teams struggled to score throughout shooting close to 40% from the field. The AfterShocks did it by committee again with their deep roster. However, they were led by TBT veteran Conner Frankamp who poured in 21 points. They will try to repeat what they did last year on Monday night, win three home games in Wichita and advance to Dayton.
TBT Championship Betting Pick
Both teams love to play physically and points should be hard to come by in this finals matchup. In addition, this will also be an electric atmosphere with the home Shockers crowd hoping for back-to-back regional titles. In fact, The Bleed Green enters this matchup averaging making 12.5 3’s per game in TBT so far.
Meanwhile, the AfterShocks are only giving up 6.5 3’s per game. I trust the Bleed Green guards to keep this one close and have a chance to win it coming down the stretch. Mainly in part due to their ability to create and make shots late in the shot clock to limit the runs of the AfterShocks. However, I trust the experience and grit of the Wichita St alumni-based team to find a way and win a classic in the Elam Ending to advance to Dayton!
