It’s day 3 at the TBT and two more regions are set to tip-off. The Xavier and New Mexico regions will begin to play today with four quarterfinals matchups in each region. Let’s look at these regions that are scheduled for today and the TBT Best Bets!
Xavier Region:
(1) Florida TNT -12.0 vs (8) Team AboutBillions
The heavily favored Florida TNT will make their 2022 TBT debut looking to build off of last year’s run. Team AboutBillions is making their TBT debut and will have their hands full-headed into today’s matchup. Although 12 points is a lot to lay for a TBT game, the experience and talent gap of Florida TNT led by Kenny Boynton and Keith Clanton will be too much for the Team AboutBillions. I like this as a TBT Best Bet!
Pick: Florida TNT -12.0
(4) Nasty Nati -2.5 vs Fort Wayne Champs
The Nasty Nati will make their first TBT appearance with the home crowd in their corner at Xavier on Monday. Their opponent, the Fort Wayne Champs is one of the more experienced teams over the years at the TBT and are looking to go on another run. I anticipate this one will be a drag-it-out close game throughout, but I like the Nasty Nati to find a way to get it done behind their defense and the h0me crowd.
Pick: Nasty Nati -2.5
(2) Sideline Cancer -9.5 vs (7) Defeat Diabetes
The Sideline Cancer are back at the TBT and are ready to make another run. On the other side, Defeat Diabetes will be making its TBT debut and looking to pull the big upset. Sideline Cancer has the experience and a loaded roster to make another deep run, but last year they struggled in the opening round. I think Defeat Diabetes keeps it close with Sideline Cancer so I will take the points, but Sideline Cancer is too much in the end to advance. I love this as a TBT Best Bet!
Pick: Defeat Diabetes +9.5
(3) Zip Em Up -5.5 vs Sweet Home Alabama
Zip Em Up is back at the TBT scene and is ready to make a run in front of their home fans in the Xaiver Region. Sweet Home Alabama will make their TBT debut as the road team looking to spoil the Xavier party. In the final quarterfinal of this region, I anticipate another close game between the two teams. I think Zip Em Up finds a way to win it in the end in front of the home crowd, but I like Sweet Home Alabama and the points.
Pick: Sweet Home Alabama +5.5
New Mexico Region:
(1) Heartfire -7.0 vs (8) Competitive Choice
The Heartfire are the heavy favorites in the region and have made additions to their roster in the offseason to get them over the top this go-around at TBT. Their opponent, Competitive Choice will be making their TBT debut and will have their hands full. I look for a locked-in Heartfire group to make an opening round statement behind DeAndre Liggins and Marcus Hall on way to the next round. I love this as a TBT Best Bet!
Pick: Heartfire -7.0
(4) Team Enchantment -3.5 vs (5) Panamaniacs
Team Enchantment is back at the TBT, but this time in front of their home crowd at the Pit. Their rival, the Panamaniacs will look to spoil their home debut Monday night. This is my favorite matchup in the first round due to the New Mexico (Team Enchantment) and New Mexico State (Panamaniacs) rivalry. I like the road team and underdogs to steal the first-round game and advance to the next round.
Pick: Panamaniacs ML +135
(2) Team Challenge ALS -8.5 vs (7) Once a Bronco
Team Challenge ALS is looking to make another deep TBT run as one of the more experienced teams in this field. Once a Bronco (Boise State alumni team) is new to the TBT and will look to pull the big first-round upset. I think Team Challenge ALS gets the job done to advance but will take the points with Once a Bronco due to Team Challenge ALS always seemingly being in close games throughout their TBT years.
Pick: Once a Bronco +8.5
(3) LA Cheaters -4.5 vs (6) Ram Up
The LA Cheaters bring back one of the more talented rosters to this year’s TBT field. On the other side, Ram Up will be making its TBT debut behind a Colorado State alumni team. The LA Cheaters lost a lot from last year’s roster and reloaded with new talent, but I think it will take time for them to get in sync. I like the Ram Up to pull the first-round upset in New Mexico to advance.
