NFL Week 5 Preview: Odds and Betting Trends

NFL Week 5 Odds & Trends

The Kansas City Chiefs stayed unbeaten on the season with a 26-10 win over the New England Patriots on Monday Night Football in Week 4, and they next play host to the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday afternoon as heavy 12.5-point home chalk on the NFL odds for Week 5 at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

The Chiefs struggled offensively early on against the Patriots but outscored them 20-7 in the second half to cover as 11.5-point home favorites at online betting sites. New England was playing without starting quarterback Cam Newton, who had tested positive for COVID-19. Brian Hoyer and Jarrett Stidham split the duties at quarterback for New England in the loss.

Las Vegas has lost two straight games, falling 30-23 at home to the Buffalo Bills in Week 4 as 3-point underdogs. The OVER has paid out in all four Raiders games so far this season.

The Bills, meanwhile, are also unbeaten on the season as they head to Tennessee to take on the Titans in Week 5. The Titans saw last week’s matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers get postponed due to a combination of 20 players and staff members testing positive for COVID-19, but they are expected to be able to return to their practice facility as of Wednesday.

While Tennessee has not played since rallying back for a 31-30 win over the Minnesota Vikings as 3-point road favorites in Week 3, Buffalo improved to 4-0 straight up for the first time since 2008 with its win over the Raiders. The Bills covered the spread for the third time in four games, according to the OddsShark NFL Database, while the Titans are 0-3 against the spread despite going 3-0 SU in the first three weeks.

Also on tap this weekend, the Steelers will host the Philadelphia Eagles as 7-point home favorites off an early bye, while their opponent just picked up their first victory of the year on Sunday Night Football. The Eagles upset the San Francisco 49ers 25-20 as 8.5-point road underdogs to improve to 1-2-1 SU and 1-3 ATS. Philadelphia’s lone win was also good enough to put the team atop the NFC East.

And Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks are looking for their fifth victory in as many games as they host the Vikings as 7-point home favorites in the Week 5 Sunday Night Football game. Like Kansas City, Seattle rallied for a late cover against the Miami Dolphins, outscoring them 14-11 in the fourth quarter to cover as a 4.5-point road favorite in a 31-23 win. The Seahawks led 17-15 early in the fourth before scoring two late touchdowns.

Other games of note featuring winless teams this weekend include the New York Jets hosting the Arizona Cardinals as 7-point home underdogs and the New York Giants visiting the Dallas Cowboys as 9.5-point road dogs. Two teams going for their first victory are also listed as home favorites, with the Houston Texans (-6.5) taking on the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Atlanta Falcons (-3) facing the Carolina Panthers. Houston fired coach and general manager Bill O’Brien on Monday, and Atlanta’s Dan Quinn could be the next to go with another loss.
