While the UFC continues to be the king when it comes to MMA and gambling, there is more MMA than ever to bet on now. Promotions all over the world as well as domestic ones are showing up in sportsbooks. The advantage here is that the data is usually quite a bit less sharp than when you’re making MMA predictions for the UFC. So we’ve decided to dig into some each week to get you started on your regional MMA journey. This week we keep it domestic for PFL Chicago from Illinois for our regional MMA pick.

MMA Regional Pick of the Week: PFL Chicago
PFL Welterweight Fight: Eliezer Kubanza vs Trey Waters
Card Start Time: Friday (10/16), 6:00pm EST (ESPN 2)
While there are plenty of fights with intrigue on the main card, perhaps one of the most interesting fights of the whole night is showcased on the prelims. Dana White’s Contender Series veterans tangle when Eliezer Kubanza faces off with Trey Waters.
Perhaps the wildest part of this fight is the height difference. Waters will enter the fight with an 8″ height advantage. Although that seems like it would do him some good, it may not be the advantage that some think it is. For one, he prefers to work in the clinch anyways – throwing knees to look for finishes. Additionally, he will only have a 2.5″ reach advantage, which is small all things considered.
I also believe that the wrestling game of Kubanza could give Waters trouble. While he is known for his devastating knockouts, Kubanza comes from the Congolese art of Mukumbusu. It’s a violent combat sport that has clearly influenced his game and helped him be dangerous in all facets.
Kubanza should work his way inside here. Once there, I expect him to be the one doing the damage.
PFL Chicago Pick: Eliezer Kubanza ML (-125)
