MMA Regional Pick of the Week: MVP MMA
MVP MMA Welterweight Fight: Mike Perry vs Nate Diaz
Card Start Time: Saturday (5/16), 6:00pm EST (Netflix)
One of the most talked about fights on Netflix’s debut card is between longtime fan-favorite, Nate Diaz, and former UFC fighter, Mike Perry. The two have long traded barbs and now will do battle on a huge stage. The fight offers some of the closest odds on a night with tons of chalk on the board.
For this one, I’m going to go with the favorite Perry. While the story of Nate Diaz is one that pulls a lot of people in, the fact of the matter is that his layoff is concerning. He hasn’t taken an MMA fight in nearly four full years. Additionally, he has just one win in roughly the last seven years. Sure, there are some boxing matches in there, but those hardly seem like the competition that inspires confidence.
On the other side, Perry has also been away from MMA for some time. However, in his five years away from the cage, he has been active with his boxing, bare knuckle or otherwise. That inlcudes taking some fights with guys much larger than he is – like Luke Rockhold – and otherwise. He looks faster and sharper than Diaz has in his limited action as well. So with the price as low as it is, it’s worth a dabble.
