NASCAR Picks, Odds, and Best Bets: Jack Links 500 at Talladega Superspeedway

Cole Custer Top 10 (+400)

Cole Custer isn’t a guy we get to bet on very often in the Cup Series. But when it comes to Talladega, where every driver and team has a shot, he’s a good bet. Custer finished in fifth place here in the fall, after running 13th last spring. In four of the last six races here, Custer has finished 13th or better. He consistently puts himself in position at this track, and that’s what we’re looking for. The driver of the #41 Haas Chevrolet also scored a 4th place finish at Daytona last fall.

Front Row Motorsports Over Trackhouse Racing (-115)

This is a really fun market Caesar’s Sportsbook is offering for Talladega this weekend. It pits the two teams against each other. It’s very simple: each team has three drivers, and the best finisher of the six wins this matchup. At an unpredictable track like Talladega, with big wrecks that take many cars out at once, this is nice. Instead of just having Todd Gilland against Ross Chastain, if Gilliland wrecks, we aren’t out of it. His teammates can still beat Ross and the other Trackhouse cars to win the bet.

I trust all three Front Row cars over the Trackhouse cars this week. Trackhouse has been off in a big way this season, and Chevrolet has struggled with this new body. Ross Chastain has been a dumpster fire, and Connor Zilisch has struggled in his rookie season. Shane Van Gisbergen has been solid for the most part and decent at drafting tracks. He scares me the most of anyone. All three Front Row guys have been strong here, especially Gilliland. These are the types of bets to have fun with this weekend.

Carson Hocevar to Win (+2500)

One of the best things about this type of racing, you can bet on guys you want to see win. I’m taking the shotgun unit approach, spraying a unit on a lot of longer shots to win this one. One of those is Carson Hocevar. The young up-and-coming racer has consistently been putting himself in position in these races. He’s just aggressive enough to line himself up with a shot. He was leading as they took the white flag in the Daytona 500, and was up front again at the end of the Atlanta race. Last year at Talladega, he finished in sixth place in both races. Right there, with a chance to strike! That’s what we need from the Hurricane again this week.
