MMA Regional Pick of the Week: Oktagon 86
Oktagon Welterweight Fight: Amiran Gogoladze vs Ion Surdu
Card Start Time: Saturday (4/11), 12:00pm EST (Internet PPV)
On the main card in Poland this weekend, we have a fighter who recently held the title. Not only is he a former champion, but he never lost the title in the cage. Instead, he lost it on the scale when he couldn’t make the championship numbers. Despite having not lost since becoming the champion, we see him as only a slight favorite on Saturday.
The fighter in question is Ion Surdu. Surdu’s last four victories have all come via first round KO. He’s won with hooks, crosses and head kicks in that span, showing just how dangerous he is on all fronts. Not only that, but he also has a solid takedown defense that lets him dictate where the fight takes place.
He has a favorable matchup here in Dana White’s Contender Series veteran, Amiran Gogoladze. While Gogoladze has been good with Oktagon, we’re moving in on nearly two years without a fight for the Georgian. I think that time off is going to make it tough on his timing. With Surdu being as dangerous as he is early, Gogoladze might not have any time to figure things out on the feet.
