Well, Week 13 was certainly unlucky for my college football plays. Disasterous, actually. Poof goes my season-long profit. Let’s hope we get back on track this weekend. For my college football predictions and best bets for Week 14, we’re off to Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, Virginia, and Stanford Stadium in Stanford, California. Let’s hit the gridiron!
College Football Predictions & Best Bets for Week 14
Virginia Tech Hokies vs #19 Virginia Cavaliers
Start Time: 7:00 PM EST
We kick things off in Charlottesville for another edition of the Battle of Virginia, as the top team in the ACC, the 9-2 (6-1 ACC) Virginia Cavaliers, welcome the 3-8 (2-5 ACC) Virginia Tech Hokies to town for a Saturday night game under the lights. And, for once, I’m actually in on a favorite in a matchup. It’s nice to actually like a line for the better team in a game rather than hoping an inferior team covers.
And the Cavaliers are the superior team in this matchup, make no mistake about it. Virginia is much better on offense, they’re much better on defense, and they are on a nice run, having won four of five, while the Hokies are limping into this game after dropping three straight games and four of their last five. Plus, they’ve lost to the three ranked teams they’ve previously faced this season by an average of 15 points.
My line for this game is Virginia -16, so I like the Cavaliers to cover for us at home.

#9 Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs Stanford Cardinal
Start Time: 10:30 PM EST
I’m in on the home team in this matchup, as well, but I’m back on my underdog grind. The #9-ranked (9-2) Notre Dame Fighting Irish are having themselves a season on both sides of the ball, with the seventh-best offense in the nation and the 13th-best defense. And they just crushed the last two ACC teams they’ve faced, beating Syracuse 70-7(!!) and #23 Pitt 37-15.
Yet, here I am going in on a mediocre ACC team, the 4-7 (3-5 ACC) Stanford Cardinal. What gives? Well, first of all, I’m not picking Stanford to win this game, so I’m not totally mad. I just think they can cover the spread.
Number nine-ranked Miami (FL) is the only team this season that beat the Cardinal by more than the 32.5 points we’re being given on the spread for Saturday night. And that was on the road, on the other side of the country from Stanford. This week, Notre Dame will be the team travelling across the country. And the Cardinal are a strong team at Stanford Stadium, going 4-1 this season in front of their home fans.
After crunching the numbers, my line is Notre Dame -23, still a massive spread, but not high enough to take them in this spot.
