FCS College Football Week 10 Preview & Picks Recap

The College Football Experience on the Sports Gambling Podcast Network continues its FCS college football Week 10 picks with Colby Dant (@TheColbyD) and Chris Van Dine (@ChrisV160) running through 60 games. Chris doubles down on Towson plus 1.5 at Sacred Heart, and Colby bets Lamar to take down Stephen F. Austin.

Can Towson cover again at Sacred Heart? Is Holy Cross minus 6.5 too cheap against Georgetown? Does North Dakota handle Illinois State in the dome? Can Murray State stay inside 29.5 against Youngstown State? Will Lamar storm the field? We talk it all and more on this episode of The College Football Experience.

Towson And Holy Cross Paid Off Last Week

Colby Dant opens by calling last week his best yet, and the results back him up. The guys hit South Carolina State on Thursday night and Dartmouth on Friday night. Then Towson and Yale came through on Saturday, and Holy Cross won outright at Richmond 33-14. Chris Van Dine of Phil Steele Publications had South Dakota State at 6.5. A late field goal pushed the final margin to 10. The Western Carolina over also cashed by half a point, and Western Illinois covered with a big yardage edge. So this week’s board comes with real momentum, and the hosts are happy to keep riding the teams that just paid them.

Towson Leads Off The FCS College Football Week 10 Picks

The first real bet of the night goes back to the well. Sacred Heart is laying just 1.5 at home with a 49.5 total, and Chris Van Dine is doubling down on Towson. His case starts with the record, because 1-8 hides how close this team has been. Before last week’s dominant win over Hampton, Towson lost by four at Campbell, by seven to Stony Brook and by one at Monmouth. Sacred Heart, meanwhile, trailed Stony Brook 31-13 with under six minutes left before stealing it 32-31. They also beat Hampton by only 14 and lost to Stonehill by 21. Colby Dant jumps in too and calls Towson the official podcast team.

Yale at -6.5 against Brown is the next ticket, with a 47.5 total. Colby Dant thinks Brown is the phony team in the Ivy and Yale is the real deal, so he lays the number. The Brown problems are easy to spot. They turn the ball over, and they run for just 103 yards a game. Yale also has the better pieces, with Dante Reno at 17 touchdown passes and a running back at 921 yards and 5.7 a carry. Then there is the defense, which allows only 294 yards a game. Brown has won two straight, but this trip asks a lot more of them on the road.

The biggest Patriot League game on the board is Colgate at Lehigh for first place. Lehigh is laying 4.5 with a 43.5 total, and both hosts bet Colgate for a double lock. Lehigh is still 7-2, but the trend is ugly. They lost by 10 at Cornell and by six at Villanova, then beat Bucknell by one while allowing 346 passing yards. Colgate also won at Villanova, so they own the road win Lehigh couldn’t get. The computer has Colgate losing 23-22, and the average game grades have Colgate by one. So getting more than a field goal in a near coin flip is the whole bet.

Holy Cross And Campbell Headline The Middle Of The Card

NC Central is laying 4.5 at Norfolk State, and the total sits at 50.5. Both hosts are on Trey Oliver’s team because they think Central has turned a corner over the past couple of weeks. Chris Van Dine points straight at Norfolk’s résumé. Their wins came over Winston-Salem, Hampton, Chicago State and Virginia Lynchburg, so there is no quality victory in the bunch. Last week’s three-point loss to Delaware State was probably their best showing, and Norfolk led most of that game. But Chris thinks that bubble burst. Under a touchdown, the guys like Central to take care of business and lock it up.

Holy Cross is the play Colby Dant calls one of the better ones on the board. The Crusaders lay just 6.5 to Georgetown, and Chris Van Dine calls that super cheap. The series history is the argument. Holy Cross has won 11 straight, including 42-7 last year and 34-0 the last time in Georgetown. The last time they won by fewer than 21 points was 2018, and that was a one-point game. Georgetown did pick up a nice win at William & Mary. Then again, William & Mary has proven to be awful. So the guys stay on Holy Cross after it cashed for them last week.

Campbell is laying 7.5 at home to Stony Brook with a 66.5 total, and both hosts lock it as a bounce-back spot. Campbell’s pass defense gives up 270 yards a game, which matters because Stony Brook throws it well. But Stony Brook’s own pass defense allows 67% completions, and Towson threw for 337 on them. The over in Wofford at Western Carolina is the other shared bet, at 54.5. Western Carolina averages 401 yards and 30 points a game. Wofford’s defense also allows 360 yards a game. So the guys expect Western Carolina to hit its usual number at home and push this one past the total.

Chris Van Dine also bets Delaware State at -3.5 against Morgan State, calling it a smaller play. Morgan State was 5-1 at one point and has now lost three straight, including a 51-10 beating from South Carolina State. Both hosts think there might be some quit in that group right now. Delaware State, meanwhile, is better than its record. They beat Stony Brook at home and also beat Towson. Their early loss to William & Mary was fluky, because they had a 179-yard edge in that game. Colby Dant likes Delaware State too, but he passes on laying more than a field goal.

Villanova Rolls And Stonehill Gets The Points

Richmond at Villanova carries real conference weight, and Villanova is laying 8.5 with a 47.5 total. Colby Dant wanted less than a touchdown at first. Then Chris Van Dine sold him on the road splits. Richmond just got smoked at Holy Cross, lost at Fordham and has not had a good road performance all year. Villanova, meanwhile, has won three straight and holds tiebreakers on some teams ahead of them. So the guys go in on Nova together. A listener named Mickey even called Villanova by 20 in the chat, and Chris joked that he might bet it bigger now.

Chris Van Dine locks two more in this stretch. The first is the under 42.5 in Mercer at Chattanooga, where both run defenses allow 3.4 yards a carry. Chattanooga runs it 44 times a game, and six of their eight games have gone under. The computer also projects only 41 points. The second is Stonehill +6.5 against Central Connecticut. Stonehill’s season stats look bad, but the FBS games cooked them. They managed 161 yards at UMass and 124 at Ohio, and their next lowest game is 258. They also won at Long Island and at Sacred Heart, so Chris trusts them to cover.

Murray State Gets 29.5 And North Dakota Gets The Dome

Gardner-Webb at -6.5 against Lindenwood is the side the guys land on, with a 44.5 total. The average game grades call for 13.6, and Chris Van Dine doesn’t believe in Lindenwood after recent wins over Tennessee State, Chicago State and Eastern Illinois. Then comes the biggest number of the night. Youngstown State is laying 29.5 at Murray State, and both hosts bet the points. Youngstown is coming off a dramatic win, and Illinois State is on deck. So they don’t need style points here. Murray also lost by 21 to Illinois State and by 27 at North Dakota, right around this line.

Illinois State at North Dakota is the game of the week, and it’s another double lock. North Dakota lays 6.5 with a 52.5 total. Colby Dant hoped the number would be lower, but he still lays it. Chris Van Dine says he always takes North Dakota in the dome because they are practically unbeatable there. They already beat South Dakota State in that building this year. They also should have beaten Youngstown State last week. So Chris doesn’t see Illinois State as nearly the challenge South Dakota State was, and the guys lay the points with confidence.

Lamar Is The Upset Call In Beaumont

Stephen F. Austin at Lamar is for first place in the Southland, and SFA lays 7.5 with a 53.5 total. Colby Dant bets both the over and Lamar. Chris Van Dine locks Lamar too and thinks the upset is live. SFA is number two in the country, but they have let teams hang around, including a two-point home win over Incarnate Word. Lamar, meanwhile, won in the Kibbie Dome. Their one FCS loss came against Southeast Louisiana, and they were plus 119 yards in that game. So with first place on the line in a home rivalry game, the guys want the dog.

Chris Van Dine bets Grambling at home against Arkansas Pine Bluff, and Colby Dant joins him. Chris had Pine Bluff at -1.5 written down earlier, but the chat had a 5.5 number, so shop around. Grambling already beat Jackson State at home, and both hosts think it’s the better team. Chris also bets Prairie View +3.5 against Alabama A&M. Prairie View has won two straight, and a win here puts them in the lead of the SWAC West. Then there is Western Illinois at Eastern Illinois at 4.5, which both hosts back. Quarterback Kennedy McGill ran 35 times for 295 yards last week.

MYBOOKIE BONUS

Late Window Locks From Cal Poly To North Alabama

Colby Dant goes back to Cal Poly at +14.5 against Northern Arizona, with a 62.5 total, and Chris Van Dine joins him. Chris notes Cal Poly’s last home loss came with a minus-five turnover margin. In McNeese at Houston Christian, the 44.5 total looks too low to both hosts. McNeese scores 22 a game and Houston Christian scores 26. So the guys bet the over and also lay 2.5 with Houston Christian. Chris adds Idaho at -9.5 against Eastern Washington, while Colby takes the Eagles in the rivalry. Both hosts also want Montana State at -13.5 against Idaho State, which lost 48-14 in Bozeman last year.

Abilene Christian at +10.5 against Tarleton State is a dog both hosts like, with a 58.5 total. Everything Chris Van Dine runs says take the points. The computer has Tarleton by only two, and the average game grades say six. Abilene is also 4-0 in conference, and Tarleton lost last year’s meeting 31-28. Dixie State gets the points against UC Davis as a double lock, because the guys can’t see how Davis lays 16.5 right now. Then North Alabama at -5.5 against West Florida is another shared bet. Destin Wade has a 10 to 3 ratio, and the defense ranks 16th in the country.

The one real split comes in Hammond. Incarnate Word lays 3.5 at Southeastern Louisiana, and Colby Dant is betting the home team to win outright. He thinks Southeastern is a different team in that stadium, and they did beat Lamar there. Chris Van Dine loves Incarnate Word instead. Their losses came by two at Stephen F. Austin, by three at Lamar and by 10 at Northern Arizona. They also come in off three dominant wins, and the average game grades over the last four weeks have them by 16. So Colby rides Southeastern outright, and Chris lays the 3.5 with Incarnate Word.
