College Basketball Picks For November 6th – NCAA Basketball Banter & Best Bets Recap

The College Basketball Experience (@TCEonSGPN) on the Sports Gambling Podcast breaks down every game on the College Basketball slate on Friday, November 6th. Colby Dant (@TheColbyD), Ryan McIntyre (@Moneyline_Mac), and Noah Bieniek (@NoahB77_) discuss their favorite games and give out their best bets.

Colby Dant (@thecolbyd), Ryan McIntyre (@Moneyline_Mac) and Noah Bieniek (@NoahB77_) shake off their first losing day of the season and go through college basketball picks for November 6th, every game on a loaded Friday slate. Ryan McIntyre and Noah Bieniek grab UMass on the moneyline against Boston College, and Colby Dant settles for the 5.5 points.

A First Losing Day And A Towson Bad Beat

Friday’s show opens with the guys licking their wounds. Noah Bieniek went 4-6 for his first losing day of the season. Two of his best bets, Mercyhurst and Coastal Carolina, were dead on arrival. Colby Dant also got whooped on the hardwood, even after a great day in football. Meanwhile Ryan McIntyre lost on hoops but crushed the college football card and hit a parlay. The one shared win was SMU. Mack had SMU -24.5 against VMI and watched it in the building with longtime viewers Ken and Dontrey. Then a walk-on drove late and got sent to the line with 1.7 seconds left to seal the cover. Colby cashed SMU too, one of the few bets that hit for him.

Colby spent Thursday night at Utah, paying $20 at the door to watch Towson. It turned into a brutal beat. In his view, Towson controlled most of the first half despite Utah’s 9-0 run to end it. The visitors kept cutting the lead to five but never got the one big stop. Then, with five seconds left in an eight-point game, Utah threw a 90-foot baseball pass to its big man instead of dribbling out the clock. Colby also wanted a late tip-in reviewed. So the cover slipped away, and he called Utah the worst team in the Big 12 without question. Mack added that BYU, just down the road, sells out every night while Utah’s building sat nearly empty.

Game Balls From Fort Valley State To Princeton

Mack opened the game balls with North Texas, which ground out a win over McNeese. He wanted to drive up from SMU for it, but the early tip made that impossible. Noah also watched the whole thing and loved how the Mean Green took McNeese out of its half-court offense. Midway through the first half, North Texas brought in senior point guard Cole Franklin. He doesn’t score much, but he locked down Larry Johnson, who went 6 of 17 from the floor. McNeese then ran more offense through big man Christian Nidu, and it wasn’t nearly as efficient. So watch McNeese, because a Southland team won’t get many more hiccups with the committee.

Colby went somewhere painful for a lifelong Charlie Ward fan. Fort Valley State, Tyrone Poole’s alma mater, isn’t even a Division I program. It walked into the Lawson Center in Tallahassee and beat Ward’s FAMU team anyway. Inslee Carroll led the way with 19 points, three boards, two assists and three steals. Noah noted it was the first upset of that kind this season. Getting blown out by Florida State was one thing, but this has Colby eyeing an auto-fade on FAMU. Mack also wonders if FAMU is sliding back to where it was before Patrick Crary’s one big year. And Noah found that FAMU returned three starters from Crary’s team. So maybe Ward’s solid first year rode those coattails.

Noah handed his game ball to the entire America East, which went 6-3 outright on the road against the MAAC. Maine won 74-72 at Sacred Heart. Vermont also won 79-67 at Fairfield, and Binghamton held on 58-55 at St. Peter’s. The one stinker was NJIT, which the guys had locked and which got blown out 72-49. Noah doesn’t think the results move the league off the 16 line. But they could get the conference wearing white, as the home team with first possession, in Dayton or Wichita State come March. The guys also admitted they forgot to mention the challenge on the prior show, even though they picked all nine games.

Mack’s other game ball went to East Texas A&M, the old Commerce program, which won at Rice in a buy game. That came right after it beat Oklahoma, so the program is 2-0 with a tidy return on investment. Noah credited the lean into European recruiting, since the roster carries nine Euros and Mo Diakite posted a double-double. Colby, meanwhile, cashed two old favorites he should have parlayed. Long Island covered with ease. Then Chicago State went down to San Antonio as roughly a 7.5-point dog and won, though Colby only had the points. Mack can see Long Island reaching the tournament, but on Chicago State his answer was hell no.

Jackson State pulled the wildest finish of the night. It won outright at Tulane’s Devlin Fieldhouse without leading for a single second until the final free throws. Tulane tried to call a timeout it didn’t have, drew a technical, and Jackson State made the shots. Colby thinks that loss puts Ron Hunter on the hot seat. Princeton also had no business covering. The Tigers trailed by nine with 1:30 to go, but Hofstra went 0 for 4 with a couple of turnovers down the stretch. So Princeton still found the cover. And the best clip of the night came from that game, when a wet spot turned the floor into a slip and slide in the final minute.

South Alabama came back from 10 down with two minutes left against Jacksonville State, then won in double overtime. Noah didn’t get the cover on that lock battle, but Steven Williams put up 27 and 13 as the go-to big. Charlotte pulled a similar trick on Georgia State. Georgia State led by 10 with about five minutes left and lost by 10, so anyone on that money line is still sick. Colby had Georgia State +10.5 and barely cashed. Even so, he’s buying stock in Wes Miller’s Charlotte team after Keyshawn Tillery’s big game, with Roy Williams in the house. Noah also thinks they’re kinda good.

College Basketball Picks For November 6th Start With UMass

The board opens with Mack’s favorite play. UMass meets Boston College at TD Garden for a Friday 4 p.m. tip, and BC is laying 5.5. Mack calls it a wrong-team favorite and wants the Minutemen on the money line. His logic is simple, because Frank Martin as a dog in a spotlight game is dangerous and Luke Murray is coaching game two. Noah tags along on the money line, also figuring a veteran coach beats a rookie. Colby likes the Murray hire long term but takes the points, thinks this could be Martin’s best team in Amherst and calls the money line live. So all three land on UMass, with the money line sitting at +200.

Northeastern is a triple lock, catching 33.5 at Virginia. Colby refuses to believe Virginia can run up 30 on everybody, and he figures Bill Coen, at 65, gets a little mercy. Noah also likes the spot because Virginia has only one day before it plays Arkansas in DC on Sunday. Mack simply thinks UVA is getting way too much respect. Then the guys hit two in-state dog spots. South Carolina State catches 7.5 at South Carolina Upstate, and Colby and Mack both lock it and call the money line live. Greensboro gets 9.5 at Elon after Elon won by only two last year, so that one becomes a triple lock too.

American is another triple lock, getting 17.5 at Clemson. Colby says Clemson isn’t healthy or experienced, and he came away impressed watching American the other night. Noah points to Dwayne Simpkins being very good lately against the spread in non-conference games. Colby also wants a sprinkle on the first-half money line. Meanwhile Yale catches 9.5 at UCF, and that one turned into a battle. Colby and Noah take Yale and sprinkle the money line at +413, because Yale shut down Howard on opening night. Mack expects UCF to bounce back and win by double digits. Colby even pulled the average ages, with UCF at 20.38 and Yale at 20.32.

Locks All Over The Friday Board

LSU drew the loudest table-pounding of the night. The number started at 24 against Texas Southern, and a viewer soon spotted 30. Noah found 30.5 while KenPom sat at 28. But he still doesn’t think the market has caught up after LSU led New Orleans 48-8 in the opener. Mack adds that Johnny Jones is on the LSU staff, facing his old program. He also expects a lit crowd with Alabama coming to town for football the next day. So LSU becomes a triple lock, and both Mack and Noah carry it into their top plays.

The short favorites and long dogs filled out the rest. Louisiana laying just 2.5 to Corpus Christi is a triple lock, since Colby watched Corpus Christi and doesn’t think it’s very good. UMKC getting 2.5 against Southern Illinois is another, because the Roos led Creighton at halftime and Mack trusts Turgeon. Then the big dogs took over. Colby and Mack double-lock Detroit +32.5 at Marquette, Omaha +31.5 at BYU and Cal Baptist +18.5 at Oregon State. They also back Idaho State +18.5 at Wyoming and St. Thomas +14.5 at Minnesota. Noah, meanwhile, bets Southern +23.5 at TCU after it lost by only 13 at SMU.

A few lock battles kept things honest. Noah bets Indiana State on the money line at +138 against Ball State, while Mack takes the other side and expects a nine-point Ball State win. Colby and Mack lock Missouri over St. Louis even with Robbie Avila eligible, and Noah takes the Billikens with the points. Mack and Noah also lock Arkansas State getting 25.5 at Alabama, because Noah has Oats 1-2 against the spread versus former assistants the last two years. And Colby and Mack double-lock Georgia over Presbyterian, Iowa State over Southern Miss and Wright State over FAU, while Noah lays it with Iowa State but stays off the lock.

Top Plays Of The Night

Mack’s top locks are UMass on the money line, LSU as his big favorite and UMKC getting 2.5 in Turgeon’s home opener. Then he goes back to the well with his dog. Oakland catches 14.5 at Stanford, and Mack likes the eight-to-one money line because he thinks Stanford drops one of these buy games. He also loves the veteran coaches on his side, from Frank Martin to Will Wade. Colby, meanwhile, goes with Oklahoma as his big favorite and Robert Morris to cover. He feels good about South Carolina State as a dog, which pairs with UMass in what Mack calls the Martin parlay. And Colby closes on American getting points at Clemson.

Noah saves his favorite play of the day for a total. He’s on the over 160.5 in Northridge at Kansas State. Northridge played at a top-five tempo in the country last year. So he doesn’t think the market has adjusted to Casey Alexander replacing Jerome Tang. He also runs back LSU -30.5 with a big football game on deck, then takes Yale catching 9.5 at UCF. His dog is Eastern Washington at 16.5 against Oregon. Take the points to cover yourself, but Noah sees a clear coaching advantage and wants a piece of that 13-to-1 money line.
