Sean opened intrigued by Tampa Bay as a division dog. He called the defense slightly underrated and noted the Bucs have won 12 of the last 15 against Carolina. Then he talked himself out of it. Baker sat out practice last week with a swollen hand, and Sean reminded everyone he fumbled three times against the Bengals when the hand was fine. Ryan’s answer was the glove on the throwing hand, which he insisted is exactly what it’s for.

Ryan’s real case was the calendar. He leaned on Sean’s own read that these Panthers zigzag, win then lose, and said they’re due for the loss. He sees a Bucs defense starting to play, and he thought Carolina’s last game stayed dangerously close late against a team that wasn’t really playing offense. He also dropped the trend that Carolina is 3-13 as a divisional favorite since 2016. Sean pushed back that most of that predates Bryce Young, which earned him a ribbing for picking apart a trend when he usually loves one.

Sean didn’t move. He has watched every Baker game this season, can’t name a good one, and expects the Bucs to struggle to move the ball and cough it up, so he laid the three with Carolina at home. Ryan stuck with the points and left himself an out: if he’s wrong, he’ll walk away saying Bryce Young might be a franchise quarterback.
