NFL Week 6 Recap & SF/WAS MNF Bombs! Recap
CJ Sullivan (@CJSullivan_) runs through the NFL Week 6 recap, starting with the end of Surviving CJ after Luke the Young Sharp (@lukedontcar3) and the 12.5-point favorite Rams lost to Arizona. Then he climbs a George Kittle ladder for 49ers vs Washington on Monday Night Football.
Kittle Is The Monday Night Football Bomb
CJ Sullivan came back from Chicago with a busted Survivor ticket and still found a Monday night play he loves. San Francisco is laying 7.5 to Washington, and the total sits at 51.5. The chat is leaning toward the dog. But the Niners are already in the Circa Millions entry, so there is no backing out now. Washington is coming off a tie it blew, and Dan Quinn could be coaching for his job. Meanwhile, San Francisco looks like the one elite team in football despite all the injuries. Because Washington is decent against the run, the passing game is where this one breaks open.
And the passing game means George Kittle. Washington is terrible against the tight end and plays the zone Kittle eats alive. Deebo is hurt, too, so the receiver room is thin. So the guys smash Kittle anytime touchdown at +110 and sprinkle two touchdowns at +650. Then comes the ladder. His yardage line is 68.5 at -115, stepping to 80 yards at +140, 90 at +197 and 100 at +275. Also on the card are 110 yards at +378 and 120 at +523. The receptions ladder starts at 5.5, which is plus money, and climbs to seven at +170, eight at +309 and nine at +539.
The ladder approach already paid off this weekend. A Trey Tucker ladder went out on the VSiN show Friday night. Tucker went for 97 yards, just short of 100, and it still cashed nicely. So the house is going right back to the well. For the pick’em crowd, the entry is Kittle higher than 68.5 yards paired with a Daniels anytime touchdown. Daniels gets in because of his rushing numbers. Then there is the curse of any big over ladder. Somebody gets hurt, and everyone on the over suddenly wants a void. But nobody on the under ever asks for their money back.
Surviving CJ Dies On A 12.5-Point Favorite
The Survivor run is over. CJ Sullivan and Luke the Young Sharp went down with the Rams, a 12.5-point favorite that lost to Arizona. The kicker got hurt tackling on the opening kickoff, so the punter ended up kicking extra points. Then the Rams finally took the lead with about 40 seconds to go. But one play and a 15-yard penalty later, it was over. And Arizona never even scored a touchdown, winning on field goals. His partner showed up to the funeral in a suit and owned it anyway. He looked in the mirror and admitted he made a bad pick.
The sting is in the math. Only 1,158 entries are left, with roughly 900 on the Rams and 700 on the Colts. Also, nobody played the Chiefs, and Andy Reid off the bye would have been a sweet spot. Their entry was worth around $8,500 to $9,000 before kickoff, with 2,900 still alive. So people kept asking about selling or swapping a piece of it. But the man in the box said no way, too early, and a day later he wouldn’t mind having that $9,000. And his advice to his partner still holds. Mute every Survivor word on social media and stop replaying the picks.
Then came the autopsy on Sean McVay. Special teams has been a problem for four years, and he keeps talking about it instead of fixing it. God’s plan got the full treatment on the show. It included Matthew Stafford in the shotgun about 90% of the time and a screen pass on fourth and eight. It also included a handoff to a third-string tight end on fourth and one. And the Rams weren’t ready for a blitz from a coordinator they have faced four years running. This was supposed to be the week they got it together.
The $100,000 Grandissimo Entry That Never Got In
Survivor had bigger drama than one busted ticket. In the Circa Grandissimo, where each entry costs $100,000, one entrant never submitted a pick. With only about 20 left, that entry was worth over half a million dollars. Then he went on Twitter and blamed his proxy for missing it. He also said the proxy got his other entries in, just not this one. He even tweeted at Jeff Benson to be let back in, claiming he would have had the Rams. So the Bet Detective isn’t buying it. Between a proxy service that does this for a living and a desperate gambler, he trusts the proxy. The gambler always lies. And once that guy claimed the Rams, the writing was on the wall for the Surviving CJ entry.
The NFL Week 6 Recap And A 2-2 Millions Card
The Circa Millions entry sits at 2-2 heading into Monday. The guys won Carolina -1, the dead number over Philadelphia, and Green Bay -1 over Dallas. But they lost Tampa Bay -2.5 and the Colts -7. Tampa still hurts, because the handicap was right. The Bucs led 16-3 in the fourth quarter and lost by seven in overtime to the Steelers. Boswell kicked field goals all day, Aaron Rodgers hates Florida, and the Pittsburgh run game was handled. But the Bucs could not close. Up 16-3, you just can’t blow that game.
The Colts loss was worse. Indianapolis led Tennessee 13-0 at home, against a Titans team that wasn’t even playing well. Cam Ward threw for about 100 yards. Then a punt got blocked, Daniel Jones struggled again, and Tennessee took the gift. It was embarrassing enough that the Colts fired their general manager on Monday. The owner’s statement also warned the head coach he could be next. So the one that got away was Cleveland. The Browns were a dead number at 5.5, the line came down to three, and they beat Baltimore. And now they’re in first place.
Green Bay cashed, but it should have been easier. The Packers won 23-15 and could have won by 30. Golden and Watson both dropped touchdowns. Then the flags took over, from an illegal contact call on third and 30 to a run of soft roughing-the-passer penalties. Meanwhile, Collinsworth marveled at how these games somehow come down to the wire. The show had the answer: phantom calls even things out. Dallas also lost a pick six to a review that went back 40 yards, which nobody minded because it was the Cowboys.
Jalen Hurts, Blood Clots And An Easy Carolina Play
Carolina -1 was the most popular pick on the Millions card, because the dead numbers handed you about 3.5 points of value. The guys liked the Panthers before the news broke. Carolina was off a bye, and Philly was coming off an international trip. Then Philadelphia lost Jalen Hurts to blood clots. Nine of their 11 offensive starters were already out, so Tanner McKee got the start. That was an easy play, and Carolina won it handily. Also, Chris Simms ranted about giving Eagles bettors their money back over the calf injury. But Philly covered the 8.5, so the rant missed.
Jalen Hurts story keeps getting stranger. He is now on IR and done for the season, with some of the clots moving into his lungs. He got spiked in the calf against the Rams a couple of weeks ago. The clot was found once the team went to Europe to play Jacksonville. The rumor is doctors told him not to sleep, because sleep could kill him. So he stayed up for 36 hours and played a football game. Philly led 14-10 at halftime before a rough second half. Then the flight back to America made it worse. His prognosis is good, but the trust between Hurts and the Philly medical staff looks shaky.
Skattebo Benched And The NFC East Mess
The show got Saints-Giants wrong. A lot of sharps were on New Orleans, but the read was that the Giants could run all over the Saints. That only works if you actually run the ball. Instead, New York benched Cam Skattebo for fumbling in overtime last week. And that was against the worst run defense in football. So Najee Harris got the work while the Giants were getting blown out at home. Meanwhile, the NFC East is a disaster. If the Niners take care of Washington, nobody in the division will have won a game two weeks running. And two of them played each other. Can the Cowboys win it? Sure, why not.
Brandy, O’Hare And James Houston Comeback
The Bet Detective caught Houston and Jacksonville from an O’Hare bar on the way home. Houston won 34-31, and Liam Coen kicking a field goal at the end was hard to believe. The guy on the next stool clearly had money on Jacksonville. When Trevor Lawrence threw an interception in the end zone, the guy unloaded on him. Then he did a shot of brandy and walked straight onto a flight to Cincinnati. That’s the beauty of airport bars. Nobody uses names, and nobody judges a drink at any hour. Also, Houston saved its season and is now about 50% to make the playoffs. And the Bears held on against Atlanta after the Falcons pulled within a touchdown.
Chicago, The Hamburg Club And George Kittle Close
The weekend itself was a good one. CJ Sullivan did a show at the Hamburg Club in Bridgeport, a fundraiser for the late Pat Brice. And the room was aggressively Irish. Earlier, a buddy took him to a private men’s club that is basically an apartment for guys escaping their families. The Notre Dame game was on, and the room had some notes for Marcus Freeman. Also, the show is back Thursday, and the Millions entry needs a win to get to 3-2. So it all rides on the Niners laying 7.5 and Kittle climbing that ladder. The bomb is Kittle to score at +110.
