Dantabase College Football Week 6 Top 25 & Weekday Games Preview & Picks Recap
The College Football Experience on the Sports Gambling Podcast Network continues its Week 6 college football picks with Colby Dant (@thecolbyd) and Ryan McIntyre (@Moneyline_Mac) doing the Dantabase Top 25 and the weekday games preview in one show, plus Troy Chewning (@Troychewning) jumping in on a few bets.
Will James Madison make the playoff before Florida? Is Wyoming the right fit for Mike Gundy? Is Penn State the worst of the bunch after giving up 415 rushing yards? Does Alabama deserve No. 1? Can Sam Houston hang at Liberty? We talk it all and more on this episode of The College Football Experience.
Pop Quiz Hotshot In The Land Down Under
The Land Down Under opens with Pop Quiz Hotshot, and Ryan McIntyre (@Moneyline_Mac) takes the questions. Will North Dakota State make the playoff before Nebraska? That was a layup, and the answer was absolutely. The Bison have the better case, because Nebraska has barely played anybody. Then comes the question built to torture USC fans. UCLA gets to the playoff first, and Ryan McIntyre (@Moneyline_Mac) says it happens this year. So nobody is defending Lincoln Riley, since USC barely beat Washington at home. Colby Dant (@thecolbyd) also argues Gary Patterson is the better head coach on that staff. Florida against James Madison was trickier. Once the field goes to 24, both are a lock to get in.
The Michigan question got the most heat. Biff Poggi is the right answer for best Michigan coach in 16 months, and both hosts agree. Kyle Whittingham comes second for Ryan McIntyre (@Moneyline_Mac), who gets Rich Rod vibes from him there. Sherrone Moore finishes last. Next comes the foxhole spot, and the pick is Oklahoma in the Red River Shootout. Troy Chewning (@Troychewning) says the line being only seven and a half is why it’s Oklahoma. Then the Group of Five disappointments roll in. Ryan McIntyre (@Moneyline_Mac) picks Western Kentucky after a three-score loss to New Mexico State. Colby Dant (@thecolbyd) goes Navy, because every book made them the favorite to make the playoff. Also, Mike Gundy fits Wyoming best for Ryan McIntyre (@Moneyline_Mac).
Ranking Rounds And The 41-7 Hot Seat
The ranking rounds get messy fast. In the SEC group, Ryan McIntyre (@Moneyline_Mac) puts Tennessee last, because they have not done anything yet. Colby Dant (@thecolbyd) goes Ole Miss first and Missouri second, and also leaves Tennessee at the bottom. Both hosts have UCLA and Iowa as the top two in the Big Ten group. Nebraska is sixth on both lists. Then the 41-7 game asks whether a blowout costs a coach his job. Ryan McIntyre (@Moneyline_Mac) says yes for Lincoln Riley if he loses at Penn State by that score. Brent Venables survives it, since Oklahoma just extended him. Meanwhile, Locksley is still employed six years after the show first put him on the hot seat. His average loss margin against Ohio State is 35 and a half. Finally, the dumbest-game slide makes Iowa at Washington look the least ridiculous.
The Dantabase Top 25 Puts Alabama At Number One
The Dantabase Top 25 is built on results, not reputation. Boise State opens it at 25. Oregon sits right behind at 24, because of that win at USC. Oklahoma State holds 23, although the Tulsa loss is turning into a black eye. Then Colby Dant (@thecolbyd) changes the poll on the fly. Virginia Tech gets bumped out, and Kentucky takes the 22 spot instead. Mississippi State is the highest one-loss team at 16, so the aggressive schedule pays off. Nebraska lands at 15 as the lowest undefeated team. North Dakota State sits one spot above at 14. Ryan McIntyre (@Moneyline_Mac) also co-signs that the Bison should be ranked ahead of Ohio State.
The top of the poll is where the arguing starts. UCLA lands at four and Texas at five. The reason is road wins, because UCLA has two Power Five road wins to the Longhorns’ one. Troy Chewning (@Troychewning) pushes back, since Texas over Ohio State is the best win in the country. Ryan McIntyre (@Moneyline_Mac) first leans Texas, then flips to UCLA for the travel. Next, Notre Dame takes the two spot over Miami at three. Notre Dame’s home slate of Rice and Michigan State tops Florida A&M and Central Michigan. Finally, Alabama is number one with two Power Five road wins. Colby Dant (@thecolbyd) cannot understand how anyone ranks them lower.
Week 6 College Football Picks For The Weekday Slate
The weekday card starts Tuesday, with Southern Miss heading to Troy. The Trojans lay 10 and a half, and the guys lock it up. Colby Dant (@thecolbyd) sees a 14 or 17 point win after Troy got drilled in Logan. Troy Chewning (@Troychewning) also triple locks it for the name alone. Then Wednesday brings a rematch of last season’s title game, Jacksonville State at Kennesaw State. Kennesaw won that one 19-15, and now the Owls catch two and a half at home. Both hosts take the home dog. Ryan McIntyre (@Moneyline_Mac) likes the 10 days off and the familiar staffs. Later that night, FIU lays six and a half to New Mexico State. That one is a battle, because Ryan McIntyre (@Moneyline_Mac) takes the Aggies on the road. Meanwhile, Colby Dant (@thecolbyd) lays it with FIU and likes the over.
Thursday stacks four games on top of each other. Western Kentucky lays two and a half to Missouri State, and both hosts take the Bears. Colby Dant (@thecolbyd) calls it the lowest-confidence play so far. Next, Sam Houston catches 13 and a half at Liberty. Sam Houston is 1-3, but they lost to Troy by three and Tulsa by six. So the guys take the points, and Ryan McIntyre (@Moneyline_Mac) sprinkles the moneyline. Troy Chewning (@Troychewning) also pitches the plus 350 first-half moneyline, and it gets locked. South Alabama is the play in Jonesboro, where Arkansas State lays one and a half. Arkansas State has won the last two by a combined three points. So Ryan McIntyre (@Moneyline_Mac) says South Alabama finally gets revenge.
The easiest call of the week is UTSA laying seven and a half to South Florida. Hartline said he did not know how loud the dome gets. Ryan McIntyre (@Moneyline_Mac) says South Florida is about to get blitzed. Colby Dant (@thecolbyd) thinks UTSA wins by 21 and would even look at an alt line. Yes, Rice nearly got UTSA, but only because Rice missed a field goal that would have won it. This is also a game UTSA gets up for, since South Florida still has clout in the conference. So the guys lay it, and this is the pick they trust most all week.
Friday Night Battles And The Best Bets
Friday opens with Florida State at Louisville, and the Cardinals lay three and a half. Colby Dant (@thecolbyd) hates Louisville as a favorite but calls this a foxhole spot. Ryan McIntyre (@Moneyline_Mac) is back on Louisville, because Florida State is on a short week after the Virginia win. Troy Chewning (@Troychewning) also adds the over on 58 and a half. Louisville has the 125th ranked defense and the 131st pass defense. Troy Chewning (@Troychewning) sees something like 38-31. Then San Jose State lays six and a half to Wyoming, who just got shut out. That is a battle, with Ryan McIntyre (@Moneyline_Mac) on the Pokes. Colby Dant (@thecolbyd) goes light, a $30 wager on San Jose State. Meanwhile, the over 43 and a half is the best play on the board for him.
Late Friday, Utah State lays five and a half to Washington State. The guys also take the over 43 and a half in that one. Ryan McIntyre (@Moneyline_Mac) sees Mendenhall’s offense opening it up in a 31-17 win. Then Iowa catching three and a half at Washington is another battle. Colby Dant (@thecolbyd) trusts the Ferentz magic and thinks the moneyline is live. Ryan McIntyre (@Moneyline_Mac) locks Washington, which already lost to a Midwest team at home. Finally, Iowa State catches 10 and a half at BYU, with Notre Dame on deck. That is a great look-ahead spot, so the guys double lock the Cyclones plus the points. BYU has the ninth-ranked rushing defense, and Colby Dant (@thecolbyd) likes the under too. When the weekday card gets ranked, UTSA is first, the Trojans second and Utah State third.
