College Football Pick Of The Day (October 5th): NCAA Week 6 Spread Pick
For today’s Week 6 college football pick of the day, I’m looking at the Missouri State at Western Kentucky game. More specifically, I’m looking at the total of over/under 55.5. Western Kentucky is currently allowing 39.6 points per game. That’s 135th in FBS. They’re also allowing 421.6 yards per game. The run defense is giving up 217.6 rushing yards per game.
Missouri State isn’t much better. The Bears have allowed 32 points per game and 446 yards per game. They’re also letting opponents convert 46% of their third downs. These are two of the leakiest defenses in Conference USA, as well as in the FBS.
The offenses aren’t terrible, though. Rodney Tisdale has thrown for 857 yards this year. He just threw for 314 in New Mexico State’s loss. Missouri State quarterback Skyler Locklear is completing about 70% of his throws. Isaiah Myers already has 342 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Therefore, the offenses can move the ball.
A couple of explosive plays get this easily. The recent scoreboards back this up as well. Western Kentucky’s games have gone for 63, 90, 38, 59, and 47 points. The last three averaged 58.5. Missouri State’s four games have landed at 50, 62, 54, and 58. One of those was a shutout by Texas A&M.
Strip out the power-conference blowouts, and these clubs live above the mid-50s. Weather is clear for the game and I expect the defenses will let their teams down. I know it’s always tough taking the over in a Thursday night game in college football. However, I feel confident on this one.
Pick: Over 55.5 points.
