We went from no sports on Monday, save for one NFL game, to all the sports tomorrow. The MLB and WNBA playoffs are on the schedule on Tuesday, as is the start of the NHL season, which is where my best bet comes from. Florida Panthers vs Carolina Hurricanes
Start Time: 5:00 PM EST
For the third straight season, the Florida Panthers will get to witness the Stanley Cup Championship banner being raised to the rafters. However, this year the banner will be raised in an opponent’s barn, the Carolina Hurricanes’ Lenovo Center. An injury-plagued season scuppered the Panthers’ hopes at a threepeat, with the Hurricanes instead taking the mantle as the league’s best team.
But Florida is counting on a bounceback season this year, with the return of their captain and two-way star, Aleksandar Barkov, who missed all of last season due to injury. The Panthers also added the other Tkachuk brother, Brady, in the offseason, and he’s slotted on their top line.
With all that said, I’m picking against the Panthers and going with the home side, and the champions, Carolina, to win tomorrow night. The Canes were the best home team last season, and assuming there isn’t a letdown after the banner-raising ceremony, I expect them to send the crowd home happy.
