MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – September 12

San Diego Padres vs. San Francisco Giants

First Pitch – 4:05 pm EST
Oracle Park – San Francisco, CA
Broadcast – MLB TV

Perhaps it’s a bit nerve-racking to lead off an NRFI play with a pitcher who has only thrown 10.0 MLB innings, that’s exactly what we’re going to do here. Cesar Perdomo has looked good in those two appearances – allowing just one run and six hits in the process. His accuracy seems to be a plus as well with just two walks in that span. If we needed a little help getting there with our confidence in him, then we can point to the futility of the Padres’ offense. Not only do they rank in the bottom third in the majors in scoring, but they are also 29th in first inning scoring.

Speaking of struggling offenses, the Giants are right around that same level. They come in just one spot ahead of the Padres in first inning scoring (28th) and are actually a spot behind them in overall scoring (24th). Those numbers are unlikely to move with Michael King on the bump. He’s on an incredible run, even by his standards. He’s rattled off 21.0 straight innings of scoreless baseball and the Giants simply aren’t the team that’s going to upset that – particularly in the first inning.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 12: No (-120)

Los Angeles Angels vs. Washington Nationals

First Pitch – 4:05 pm EST
Target Field – Washington, DC
Broadcast – MLB TV

While we’ve been fading the bad offenses on Saturday, the Nationals are definitely not that. They rank near the top of the league in run scoring. However, they have fallen on hard times. They are 1-7 in their last eight games and are scoring just 3.13 runs per game in that stretch. That’s good news for Walbert Urena, who will be tasked with keeping the first frame clean. The 22-year old righty has been fantastic. He’s coming off his first career complete game, where he allowed just one run to the Pirates. That helped get his ERA down to 2.74 and shows that this slumping Washington lineup should have nothing for him.

With the Angels, we’re back to fading the teams with weak hitting. They rank 28th in the majors in terms of runs scored this year – only ahead of the Blue Jays and Mariners. They’re also slumping with just 17 runs scored over their last five games (3.40 runs per game). Not only do we like the fade on them, but Andrew Alvarez has been surprisingly good for Washington lately. He’s posted a 3.15 ERA over his last five starts with more than a strikeout per inning.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 12: No (-120)

Bonus Pick: Royals/Red Sox NRFI (-115)
