The Red Sox politely waited until the second inning to blow up for four runs, which helped us to cash that NRFI. We’ll try to keep that momentum going into the week. We have some NRFI bets for September 8.

MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – September 8
Los Angeles Angels vs. Boston Red Sox
First Pitch – 6:45 pm EST
Fenway Park – Boston, MA
Broadcast – MLB TV
This game cashed for us on Monday and there’s really no reason to think it won’t again here. The bats for these two squads are still not really producing in a way that should make us scared. The Angels have scored just 11 runs over their last five games for a 2.20 per game average. The Red Sox are definitely hitting a bit better than that, but they continue to struggle in the first inning. They rank 27th in first inning scoring and put up another goose egg on Monday.
In addition to some dull bats, each team sends out a pitcher that has been solid lately. Patrick Sandoval is dealing first. He’s put up a 3.60 ERA over his last three starts, which includes back-to-back clean first innings. On the other side of things, we get a white-hot Reid Detmers. He’s allowed just three earned runs total over his last five starts. That comes out to a 0.82 ERA in that run that includes 32 strikeouts in 33.0 innings. He should have no issue continuing that for at least an inning.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 8: No (TBD)
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Athletics
First Pitch – 9:40 pm EST
Sutter Health Park – Sacramento, CA
Broadcast – MLB TV
We’ll head to Sacramento for another series that we’d like to double down on. Toronto gets first ups in this one and they have been truly abysmal at the plate. They rank 29th in run scoring this year and 28th in scoring in the first inning. A pitching machine could likely get an NRFI against them. Instead of a pitching machine, they’ll face Jack Perkins. Perkins may not have the year-long numbers that you want to tail, but he has been strong lately. Over his last four starts, he’s posted a 2.70 ERA and fanned 11.88 batters per nine innings.
To round this one out, we’ll rest our NRFI hopes on the shoulders of Jose Soriano. He ranks in the top 25 of ERA this season and just outside that threshold for strikeouts. Meanwhile, the Athletics have dipped into the bottom third of the league when it comes to runs per game. Soriano should be able to help that dip a little further to help us cash this one.
