MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – August 22

Atlanta Braves vs. Milwaukee Brewers

First Pitch – 2:10 pm EST
American Family Field – Milwaukee, WI
Broadcast – MLB TV

The Braves are first up and they’ve been ice-cold at the plate lately. Not only have they lost four of their last five games, but their offense has not been able to get anything going. They’ve put up just ten runs over that stretch (or 2.00 runs per game) and only managed one run to kick off this series. Logan Henderson is a tough one to turn the momentum against. He’s rocking a 2.70 ERA and has struck out at least seven batters in four of his last five starts.

The Brewers can’t be accused of having a similar power outage. Back on Tuesday, they exploded for 22 runs against Seattle. Since then, they’ve put up just 14 runs though, which comes out to 3.50 runs per game. Meanwhile, they get Bryce Elder toeing the rubber, who has really locked in lately. Over his last five games, he’s held opponents to just one earned run in four of them. He’s been mixing his pitches better and inducing more ground balls, which should help to keep the top of the Brewers order in the park for us.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for August 22: No (-130)

Chicago Cubs vs. Seattle Mariners

First Pitch – 7:15 pm EST
T-Mobile Park – Seattle, WA
Broadcast – FOX

It’s rare that I will highlight an NRFI play with a debuting pitcher on the mound, but Kade Anderson is not just any debuting pitcher. In 2025, he was the Most Outstanding Player at the College World Series and since then has been on a tear through the minors. He’s thrown 93.1 innings in the minors this year and fanned 135 batters. But it’s not just the swing and miss stuff that plays. He has posted a 1.06 ERA and a WHIP of 0.64. The Cubs are an above average hitting team, but rank in the bottom half of the league in first inning scoring. With little data on the lefty, I expect him to breeze through the first inning.

Closing out this NRFI is mostly a fade of the Mariners. They rank dead last in the majors in run scoring and are one of just three teams that come in under 4.00 runs per game. Not only that, but they’re nearly just as bad in the first inning. They rank 27th in that category. David Peterson will be trying to add to their misery on Saturday. Although his season numbers don’t exactly inspire confidence, he has been great in the month of August. He’s posted a 2.55 ERA in the month and is striking out more than one per inning.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for August 22: No (-135)

Bonus Pick: Reds/Diamondbacks NRFI (-120)
