MMA Regional Pick of the Week: Fury FC 123
Fury FC Catchweight Fight: Cody Freeman vs Elijah Johns
Card Start Time: Friday (8/14), 6:15pm EST (UFC Fight Pass)
When the Fury FC 123 headliner fell apart – John Garza was signed to the UFC – it left the promotion looking for some drawing power to put on top. They settled on a couple of stalwarts who are always down to throw down and have been solid for some time.
The A-side to this main event is Elijah Johns – younger brother of the UFC’s Miles Johns, who picked up a big KO just last week. This Johns has a lot of the same traits as his big brother. He throws a mean hook and overhead. Plus, he can dig deep with some wrestling when he really needs it. Despite all of that power, he has a great gas tank that lets him dog out some decisions.
Cody Freeman is also a dog, but struggles a bit more as the fight goes on. He is a natural finisher, but when he can’t get the finish, he can fade and give rounds away. That is likely the path the Johns will take to win this one. He simply needs to survive the early danger and take over in the later rounds.
