Tomorrow is a historic day in the sports world, as for the first time, a men’s World Cup game will be played on Canadian soil. This is also the first World Cup where the action will be spread out over three different countries. There’s not a great soccer history or tradition up here in the Great White North, but maybe that will change with the world’s biggest international competition being played on our turf. And it starts tomorrow in Toronto’s BMO Stadium as the host Canada side welcomes Bosnia-Herzegovina to the pitch.
For a team that has never even won a World Cup game (0-0-6 lifetime), the home-field advantage will be much needed for the Canadians. As will the seemingly (on paper) easier pool they’ve been placed in. However, they’ll be without arguably their most important player tomorrow, Alphonso Davies. So, rather than being a homer and predicting a Canada win, I’m going with the under 2.5 goals. Both teams have very little firepower, as their tuneups leading up to the tournament have laid bare.
