CFFC Middleweight Fight: Fathy Elsony vs Xavier Vasquez
Card Start Time: Friday (5/29), 8:00pm EST (UFC Fight Pass)
While there is tons of regional MMA on this week, perhaps one of the most favorable lines comes from this offering in Philadelphia. Lots of times we see a pair of prospects with similar records square off with one another. The sportbooks and matchmakers see that as an even fight, but often the film tells a different story.
If you’ve seen Elsony fight, you can see the potential. Not only does he have the potential to light you up with the hands, but with the kicks as well. He’s already scored a TKO by leg kick in his short professional career. Plus, the work he’s done at American Top Team clearly has him in a solid spot in terms of his wrestling. This is particularly true of the way he uses it defensively, but he can definitely mix it up offensively as well.
For his opponent, Xavier Vasquez, he’s a little more one dimensional at this stage in his career. He has very above average wrestling for a 3-0 prospect, but that weapon is far and above his best. I feel that fact will allow Elsony to focus on that defensively and then get his own offense clicking.
