Toronto Tempo vs Phoenix Mercury

Betting the Toronto Tempo on the spread has been my go-to move in the early going of this WNBA season, the first in the Tempo’s history. They are a veteran-heavy team that will surprise teams this season. Look no further than their 2-2 record through their first four games.
However, all 2-2 teams are not built the same. Take Toronto’s opponent tomorrow night, the Phoenix Mercury. While the Mercury are also 2-2, the advanced stats rank them the top team in the league, over 13 points per game better than the “average team”. The Tempo, meanwhile, are almost six points worse than the average team.
While it’s a small sample size, only four games played for each team – less than a tenth of the season – after crunching the numbers, I have Phoenix as 22.5 point favorites tomorrow night, which gives us plenty of breathing room on the actual spread at the books.
