They head overseas to Belgium this weekend with former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson headlining against top prospect Patrick Habirora. Prelim Pick of the Week: PFL Brussels
PFL Welterweight Fight: Khamzat Abaev vs Luca Poclit
Start Time: Saturday (5/23) 12:30pm EST (PFL App)
Burried on the prelims of PFL Brussels is a local fighter who previous had a lot of hype behind him. Khamzat Abaev moved into the PFL Europe tournament in 2025 with some high hopes. However, an early exit has us looking to find some value on him here on the early part of Saturday’s card.
Abaev is known for him ability to hit hard and punish fighters on the ground. He throws with everything he’s got when he’s exchanging and has a solid double leg to keep things interesting. After going 5-0 on the regional scene around Europe, he ran into Chequina Noso Pedro, who was a little too much to handle. Pedro’s ability to stay in the fight and survive the early attacks ultimately led to the first defeat for the Belgian.
He should not run into the same problems when he faces Luca Poclit. Poclit is a crafty submission specialist, but he has two issues in this one. Firstly is that he has no ability to get this fight to the ground. He’s talented with submissions, but wrestling is definitely not in his bag – especially against Abaev. Additionally, when on the feet, he looks like a fish out of water. His desire to get in close range is high due to the grappling, but he often does so without much defense.
Those two issues should be enough for Abaev to cruise here.
