Prelim Pick of the Week: UFC Vegas 117
UFC Middleweight Fight: Andre Petroski vs Cody Brundage
Start Time: Saturday (5/16) 5:00pm EST (Paramount+)
On the prelims of this fight card, we have a couple of veterans who each have double digit UFC fights under their belt. Cody Brundage and Andre Petroski share a combined 27 fights within the organization, which is far more than we usually see on this part of the card. Both have had their momets where they look like they can give the division a run, but each has faltered at key points.
When it comes to looking for a winner in this one, the obvious side is Petroski. Although he’s struggled in his last couple, both have been against fighters who are much bigger and with better reach than he has. Edmen Shahbazyan and Cam Rowston were able to bully him into a striking-heavy affair, which is not ideal for him.
I do not expect that to be the case in this one. Bundage has struggled with the grappling at times in his career. He has just a 68% takedown defense rate and was once dominated by Sedriques Dumas on the mat. With that being said, look for Petroski to move forward, push the pace, and get the takedowns he needs.
